The new Covid 19 variant has become a new emergency for the countries and especially for the USA. The United States of America is already under the pressure of handling an average of 93000 cases per day and it is increasing daily.
Governor’s Order To Curb Covid 19 Cases And Expand Hospital Capacity
Many states are facing a surge in Covid 19 cases per day which have created a sense of havoc amongst the citizens. The State of New York has issued a Public Statement and declared a state of emergency.
The Governor of New York State, Kathy Hochul held a meeting with the State medical agencies and showed her concern about the shortage in the medical staff and increasing the capacity of hospitals like the new Covid 19 variant, Omicron can be dangerous and can lead to more hospitalization, so we need to be prepared before it becomes difficult to handle the situation.
The medical staff shortage has been seen by many other states in this month and the reasons stated are various which included, extra working hours, stress, depression, and this has increased the demand for the nursing staff in many states.
The Gov has asked the medical agencies to urgently boost the hospital capacity as the winter season is arriving and the state can see a high increase in the covid 19 cases.
Kathy Hochul signed an Executive order that allowed the Department of Health to limit non-urgent procedures in hospitals which will allow the hospitals to increase the bed capacity for the Covid 19 patients.
The daily average per day cases stands at 6753 which is 33 percent more than the previous 14 days. The daily hospitalization cases have been increased by 27 percent to 2859 which has become a matter of concern for the state medical facilities.
As per reports around 68 percent of the New York population is fully vaccinated. The newly signed executive order will be effective from 3 December 2021 and the re-assessment of the situation will be done on 15 Jan 2022.
The State medical authorities of New York will acquire more medical supplies so that there should be no shortage of supplies to fight against the latest Covid 19 variant.
The State Government is working on increasing the vaccination rate in New York because vaccination is the only way to combat pandemics. The full vaccination rate amongst the age group of 65 and above is 87 percent which is demanding an overall increase as this particular age group is more prone to the virus.
The Administration has taken certain steps for the prevention which includes mask mandates in health care facilities, detention centers, Schools, Public Transportation.
The government should speed up the vaccination drive for the kids and booster shots for all the eligible adults in the state. All the medical experts are advocating the use of booster shots to enhance the immunity power.
After New York, other states are also at high risk and in the upcoming days, we can see some tough steps to be taken by other state Governors.
