Pennywise History; The Movie Is Back And Ready To Haunt Your Dreams Once Again

It’s been nearly 25 years since Jim Carrey starred in the horror classic, “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” And while the movie is now considered a cult classic, that doesn’t mean there aren’t fans eager to see the character return to the big screen.

Pennywise Could Return To TV To Haunt Your Dreams Again

Earlier this year, news broke that Paramount Pictures is developing a new “Nightmare on Elm Street” movie, and it looks like the horror icon may be returning as the main antagonist.

Pennywise History; The Movie Is Back And Ready To Haunt Your Dreams Once Again

Pennywise is one of horror movies’ most iconic and feared villains, and his return to the big screen could be something terrifying for fans of the genre.

Who is penny wise?

You know him. You hate him. It was 30 years ago that we were introduced to Pennywise, the terrifying clown from Derry, Maine. The first adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “It” debuted as a miniseries in 1990. Starring Tim Curry as the eponymous clown, known for bringing children’s nightmares to life and turning them into reality, he quickly turned into a pop culture icon.

Your dream-obsessed friend is probably already geeking out about this news. Pennywise, the murderous clown from Stephen King’s It and its recent film adaptation, could be coming to your living room again soon.

IT movie

Two films in, IT has already become one of the modern horror genre’s most successful franchises. It’s a near-guaranteed box office smash and has already stirred up a fervent fanbase around the world. Right now, it feels like there’s no stopping Pennywise and his eternal quest to terrify the town of Derry, Maine.

IT, the horror hit of 2017 that traumatized a generation of viewers with its stories of shapeshifting evil and the power of friendship, could have a sequel.  It’s not clear in what form this IT project will take: Deadline reports that it would most likely be a series that “will serve as a sequel to the 2017 box office hit and will follow The Losers Club as adults, who are forced to reunite when a devastating secret from their past emerges.”

New Line is reportedly in talks with original director Andy Muschietti to return in some capacity; writer Gary Dauberman and producer Barbara Muschietti are also expected to be involved.

Stephen King’s “It” is such a gigantic novel that its 1990 mini-series adaptation had to spread the story about a small town overrun by malevolent forces over two parts. Nearly 30 years later, Andy Muschietti’s R-rated theatrical adaptation stuck to the child characters from the novel, but it also set up a sequel that would deal with the children as adults.

That sequel will be based on the second half of King’s book (aka the part that focuses on the adults), and while no official title has been confirmed yet, director Andy Muschietti is hinting at really long titles. And just as Pennywise was not dead in 1990, he could return to TV again.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly (via Entertainment Tonight), Muschietti revealed that New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. have discussed making a limited series: “We’ll probably have a script for the second part in January [2019].

Ideally, we would start prep in March. Part one is only about the kids. Part two is about these characters 27 years later as adults, with flashbacks to 1989 when they were kids.” Somewhere between those flashbacks and their

Conclusion

Thirty years after the events of the first adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “It”, the fear of Pennywise is still alive and well. With IT set to return to the big screen in 2021, be sure not to sleep through the night!
