Auburn Tigers quarterback TJ Finley is being held at the Lee County Detention Center on charges of attempting to evade the Auburn Police Department. According to detention records, Finley was in custody Thursday.
Finely was detained just days after becoming the first college football player to sign an NIL deal with Amazon to sell shirts, hoodies, phone cases and other items from its product line.
He started playing football for LSU in 2020. In 2021 Finley moved to Auburn. Auburn has yet to decide who will start at quarterback for the 2022 campaign.

Auburn quarterback TJ Finley was arrested Thursday at the Lee County Detention Center in Opelika, Alabama, according to a WRBL-TV report in Columbus, Georgia, on suspicion of trying to escape at the Auburn Police Department.
In 2021, he completed 54.7% of his passes while completing 827 yards, six touchdowns and one interception.
Finley is the first college football player to sign a NIL contract with Amazon. Hoodies and phone grips are among the customizable accessories Amazon Fashion will sell.

A warrant had been issued for Finley, who then reportedly turned himself in to Auburn police on Thursday morning. The case relates to a previous traffic violation when Finley was given a ticket for not using a helmet while riding a scooter, the source claims.
Prior to Finley’s arrest, Auburn was aware of the incident. A team spokesperson was not available for comment right away. Head coach Bryan Harsin will have a press conference Thursday around 3 p.m. Eric Kiesau, the offensive coordinator, will speak at 2 p.m. on the last day of summer sessions.
Finley was expected to enter fall camp as one of four quarterbacks battling for Auburn’s starting job this season, along with real freshman Holden Gardiner, Oregon transfer Robby Ashford , Texas A&M transfer Zach Calzada and Oregon transfer Robby Ashford.
In the quarterback room, Finley, who transferred to Auburn last summer, is the only returning player. After Bo Nix injured his ankle late in the season, he appeared in the Tigers’ final three games of the 2021 campaign. In nine games as a sophomore, Finley completed 70 of 128 passes for 827 yards, six touchdowns and an interception.
