Orlando, Fla.: David “Daniel” Sigers and James Michael “Bo” Thomas were found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in a home near Sawtooth Road on August 1, according to deputies from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Scotty Rhoden claimed it had been so long since a homicide had taken place in Baker County, Florida that he was unable to recall it. On August 3, Rhoden told a press conference, “Autopsies have been performed…. These two victims were brutally killed, and it is possible that they were targets. Make no mistake: this is execution-style murder.
Residents of this sparsely populated county of approximately 30,000 are terrified by the horrific facts of the incident because so much about the case is still a mystery, with no known suspects and no known reason. Investigators assumed the shooting took place over the weekend. According to the sheriff’s office, two adult men were found dead from what appeared to be gunshot wounds when deputies entered the home, the Miami Herald reports.
A $5,000 reward is being offered by deputies to anyone with information about the murder of two men in Macclenny. In conjunction with the sheriff’s office, the Association of Florida Sheriffs’ Criminal Arrest Assistance Program (CAAP) is looking into double homicide. How many times the guys were shot, why detectives believe they were targeted and why the crime scene is being labeled as ‘brutal’ are some of the information that has been withheld. Rhoden added that there was no evidence linking the murders to drug use. According to authorities, Thomas only had “a few minor convictions” on his record, while Sigers had no criminal history.
If you noticed any suspicious or unusual activity over the weekend, please report it to the police. Nothing is too small, according to Rhoden. According to an obituary, it took place at Sigers’ home, where he led “a quiet, secluded existence.” According to his obituary, he “was a lifelong resident of Baker County,” served in the U.S. military and played nose guard for the Baker High Wildcats football team.
According to his obituary, Thomas also attended Baker High and grew up in Macclenny. He had four children and ran Bo Thomas Construction LLC. Both men were skilled musicians and hunters, with Thomas playing in the Modern Day Troubadours and the Whiskey Moon String Band, according to his obituary. According to the sheriff’s office, there is no evidence that residents of the sparsely populated area are under “imminent threat.” This, however, did not allay concerns or end rumors as to why. Many people have questions that are not currently answered.
“Why do you think they were chosen as targets?” How do you know they won’t target someone else in the same location if they were targeted? Investigation posted on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page by Angie Vlacos Sams. “Obviously several people were involved in this. Micah Morrison said: “It had to be two or more. “Someone has information!” People converse,” Eric Howard said. Michelle Dawn Lowe Baughman advised on her Facebook page to “say your prayers, lock all doors, and keep your gun close.”
