Tom Sturridge plays the titular Lord of Dreams in The Sandman, the latest installment in the Netflix film series based on the comic book series of the same name. Sir Roderick Burgess (Charles Dance), who is fighting Corinthian, a nightmare that devours the horrors of World War I, captures him.
The cosmic creature known as the Sandman, or Dream, controls all dreams in this comic adaptation. He must traverse multiple worlds and timelines to undo the damage his absence has caused as he has been captured and imprisoned for over a century.
As well as acting, British model Kirby Howell-Baptiste has appeared frequently on a series regular on Killing Eve, Downward Dog, Why Women Kill and most recently The Sandman. Kirby portrays the role of Death in The Sandman on Netflix.

Nowhere is this more evident than in how comic book death is depicted. In an interview, Kirby said she could chat with him about the character Gaiman had known for years, and that he would let her see Death as the character he had imagined and created. Additionally, Neil made room for Kirby’s rendition, which she described as great and which the artists live for.

The Neil Gaiman comic book series from 1989 to 1996, published by DC Comics, is the inspiration for the recently released American fantasy drama series “The Sandman”.
She claims that death is depicted as extremely threatening, but in the series death is completely redesigned and given creative freedom. She is, in the words of Kirby Howell-Baptiste, “the life and spirit of the party”.
She then went on to describe her character by saying death is someone you want to be with, which makes it a lot less terrifying. She drew parallels between the character’s life and her own, emphasizing her grief through the character.
Kirby said: “I believe when a loved one dies we all hope they will be taken care of. That we are taken away from here and into everything that comes next.
