Swans’ Josh Kennedy announces his retirement due to a hamstring setback.
The official Sydney Swans Twitter account revealed in a post that decorated team player Josh Kennedy has asked to end his professional career.
At the end of the current season, he will announce his retirement, capping a remarkable career that included 290 games and two clubs.
According to The West, Kennedy decided to retire after suffering a tendon injury in his right hamstring during his match against Carlton’s Sam Docherty in May.
He had been sidelined following the recommendation from Swans medical staff that he needed eight to 10 weeks to recover.
The 290-game veteran’s injury took a big toll on his body, preventing him from returning to the AFL and ending his career at the age of 34.

Will the Swans midfielder return to the pitch?
With his family and team by his side, the dedicated Swans midfielder has just announced his retirement.
His condition required significant medical assistance and support as the crisis came unexpectedly. Kennedy did not say whether or not he would do it again in this situation.
With over 16 seasons of experience and 290 AFL games under his belt, his retirement is a huge loss for his team and AFL fans.
As well as being a three-time All Australian, three-time Sydney Swans Club champion and sixth on Sydney’s all-time game list, he will soon be leaving the sport.
Josh is active on social media, so even after his retirement his followers will continue to hear from him. He has yet to reveal his long-term ambitions for his career.
He could soon take up another position, but not as an athlete, given his proximity to the football field.
