Singer Jon Batiste said he and Suleika Jaouad got married in secret in February in April 2022.
Suleika is a well-known motivational speaker and author from the United States, best known for her book “Between Two Kingdoms: A Memoir of a Life Interrupted”.
Jaouad was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia when he was 22 years old. She underwent numerous chemotherapy treatments and participated in a clinical trial.
Additionally, she underwent a bone marrow transplant before being given the green light in 2014.
Jaouad, who was 33 at the time, discovered his cancer had worsened in November 2021, just days before the Grammy nominations were announced.
Batiste struggled to stay cheerful despite being recognized for the work he put into Soul, his record, and as his longtime partner treated a COVID-19-related illness on her own.
After receiving his bone marrow transplant in February, Batiste could not stay with Jaouad because the omicron was still increasing.
