He studied at Harvard for his undergraduate degree and earned his degree in microbiology from the University of Virginia. After completing a residency in internal medicine at SUNY Stony Brook, he received postgraduate training in hematology and medical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
