The fifth episode of the final season of game of thrones The TV show was quite controversial, mainly because Daenerys Targaryen took an evil turn without notice towards the end of the episode. The ugly turn the episode took didn’t sit well with fans, considering Dany was introduced as a kind-hearted protagonist.
So when the mother of dragons suddenly made the decision to burn down all of King’s Landing in “The Bells”, even to a surrendering Cersei, the whole explosion of evil intentions seemed to come without any basis, and it pushed the fans to turn the other cheek. But director Miguel Sapochnik came to the episode’s defense, and here’s what he has to say.

Three years after the controversial episode aired on HBO Max, Miguel Sapochnik has defended the narrative Daenerys Targaryen’s character has taken on, which he says came throughout previous episodes.

The director confided in the New York Times during a recent interview, in which he recounted the controversy surrounding the episode. His defense for “The Bells” is, as he puts it-
I went back and rewatched the whole show from start to finish, and you can see Dany’s ride setup right from the start. So it was not surprising.
Now, if what he says is justifiable or not, we can only find out by reviewing game of thrones in its entirety, then maybe it’s time to rewatch the award-winning show on HBO Max.
