Early in Ms. Marvel’s adventures, it was revealed that she was an in-universe Inhuman, which explained her powers. However, during the series finale, she was revealed to be a mutant (the very first female mutant in the MCU).
The series shared a similar scene with Marvel’s Shield Agents which ran for 7 seasons until it closed. Fans theorize the Inhuman connection would prove more useful shortly, however, the VFX artist who worked on both shows disagrees.

Ms. Marvel’s Inhuman Connection Revealed
Marvel Studios is notorious for deviating from the source material of the comics a lot. In the comics, Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan is revealed to be an Inhuman. An Inhuman is a human on whom the Kree have experimented with DNA giving them Inhuman abilities (hence the name). But in the final Ms. Marvel series, it was revealed that Kamala Khan is a mutant.

Fans were quick to try to draw connections between the two shows, i.e. Ms. Marvel and Agents of SHIELD as they both shared a very similar scene regarding a transition that the Inhumans possess. When the Clandestines attempted to cross the Veil by Ms. Marveltheir skin turned into a crystallized form which is very similar to how the process of Terrigenesis is depicted in Marvel’s Shield Agents.
Kevin Yuille, the VFX artist who worked on both shows, spoke to Direct and clarified the similarities and yet the difference between the Terrigenesis in Agents of SHIELD and the above scene of Mrs. Marvel.
“It’s funny, because our company has been working on Agents of SHIELD for the duration of the show, and I’ve been on that show since the pilot. Terrignese, [Marvel Studios] didn’t tell us about it, but we thought internally: “It’s a bit like Terrigenesis, a bit!” You know, by crystallizing, I think the Terrigenesis was a bit more volcanic in appearance.
He continued his thoughts on a potential Inhuman or the path of the X-men,
Honestly, if they go down an Inhuman or X-Men route, that’s above my pay grade. I have no idea. Because we did both, we did those scenes and I worked on some of those shots. I was a composer, more of an artist then, so I worked on some of them, but yeah, I have no idea.
It came as a shock to fans when Kamala Khan was revealed to be a mutant in the series finale as he departed from the comics. This could be a way for Marvel to slowly but steadily introduce the X-men element to the franchise. With the ever-increasing number of X-men references and the inclusion of Krees and more, a crossover isn’t far off.

Terrigenesis creates Inhumans while mutants are born with powers. Kamala Khan is a mutant, unlike her comic book character which makes her an entry point for the X-men and all mutants to break into the MCU…but not so quickly.
marvel’s Secret Invasion is an upcoming series that will feature the plot of Krees (from Captain Marvel) dressing up with major and important people, including Nick Fury, on Earth, which creates a crisis. This is the entry point for the Krees into the MCU, which may lead them to experiment with humans and create Inhumans!
We don’t know what Marvel plans to do with this similar scene and the reason behind it. There has been no confirmed news yet. Ms. Marvel is currently available to stream on Disney+ with Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.
