She-Hulk: LawyerThe fourth episode of Ginger Gonzaga appeared to reveal that Ginger Gonzaga’s Nikki isn’t straight and the actress has now confirmed Nikki’s LGBTQ+ status.
During a scene in which Gonzaga’s Nikki was seen helping Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters create her dating profile, Nikki commented “straight life is dark,” suggesting she’s not herself heterosexual. In a recent interview, Gonzaga confirmed that was the case.
Ginger Gonzaga spoke about portraying Nikki as bi, treating it as a point of connection between her and the character.
Speaking to TV Line, Ginger Gonzaga opened up about Nikki’s sexuality, confirming it She-Hulk the character “is definitely queer”.
Gonzaga said she thought Nikki could love anyone and then teased her character’s upcoming crush on Renée Elise Goldsberry’s Mallory in future episodes of She-Hulk: Lawyer. However, for now, Gonzaga said Nikki’s priority is to save Jen Walters’ love life and get her into her hulk form.
Ginger Gonzaga revealed:
“Nikki is definitely queer, she’s free, she’ll like anyone. I thought of her as bi at first, because I kinda project myself into that character. But in truth, I think Nikki will anyone – and she can hang with anyone, which is fun. She can hang out with bad guys, and she can all of a sudden convince them to side with her. She can be charmed by any situation. There are no rules for Nikki, which is a nice balance with Jen Walters.
“I would have liked to see her go out more often, but I will say that she has a little secret crush on Mallory (played by Renée Elise Goldsberry), which we will see. Nikki has no problem dating, so we try to focus on what needs to happen, which is getting Jen to love herself in both forms and finally going on decent dates.
She-Hulk may touch a little more on Nikki’s love life as an LGBTQ+ character, but it looks like the focus will remain on Jennifer Walters’ difficult love life and struggle to accept herself as a hulk. Episode 4 included a glimpse of Jen’s love life issues, when she found out she was only getting dates as She-Hulk, with people losing interest in her as Jen.
