Disney+ She-hulk is doing great despite all the criticism and backlash Tatiana Maslany kills it as Jennifer Walter and her alter ego She-hulk. The protagonist is an extremely optimistic lawyer with a proven track record in defending the rights of minorities, such as the right to a fair trial for those accused of a crime) and victims of unethical businesses (such as the right to protection against harassment by the police).
These values have sometimes caused her internal turmoil, such as when she changed her mind about supporting the Superhuman Registration Act after her Bruce was blasted into orbit without a fair trial or when a person whom she believed to be a juvenile killer was exonerated.
You may have remembered on an episode of She-Hulk when Jennifer Walters was cornered by a media reporter who asked her if she got her new powers due to a mob hit gone wrong. This reference is confusing but important, and it can trace back to the superhero’s true origin story in Marvel comics.
How? Let’s find out!
What does Mafia Hit Gone Wrong suggest?
In the comics, Jennifer Walters was the only daughter of Elaine and William Morris Walters who lost their lives in a fatal car crash when Jen was just a teenager. The day Bruce contacted her to reveal his transformation into a green monster, she was attacked and seriously injured by the assassins of Nicholas Trask, a criminal boss who had previously shared the story with his father.
Since no one else matched his genetic makeup, Banner gave him some of his own plasma; because they were genetically identical, the gamma radiation in her blood, mixed with Jennifer’s rage, transformed her into the green-skinned creature she is today. When the Mafiosi came to finish the job, She-Hulk fought back. She then used her new abilities to assassinate Trask, who had been sent to the planet’s core by a malfunctioning annoying gadget.
It too is triggered by rage
Walters, in her She-Hulk form, has somewhat similar but less powerful abilities than her sibling, the Incredible Hulk. She also seemed more Amazonian and less hideous. Like Bruce Banner, Jen’s first She-Hulk metamorphosis was triggered by rage.
Her altered appearance was first described as the result of her deep desire to look like the perfect woman, a theory shared by her brother Bruce, the leader, Doc Samson, and the vast majority of people who had been altered by the absorption of gamma radiation.
After Michael Morbius saves her life by curing a life-threatening blood disease, she is able to exert control over her shapeshifting. She represented Morbius in his vampiric murder conviction and was able to have the charge reduced to manslaughter on the grounds that he suffered from an illness.
