Early life and football career

AFL career
Essendon (2013-2020)
In the 2012 national draft, Essendon selected Daniher with the tenth overall pick, under the father-son rule. He had the option of being selected by Sydney but chose to sign with the Bombers instead because his brother Darcy Daniher was a player for them at the time. In round 11 of 2013 he made his debut against Carlton. He was one of the best performers in his second game (12th round against Gold Coast), where he also scored three goals in total and netted his first AFL goal.
In his second season he improved in goals scored, leading the club with 28 goals for the year, including 4 goals against North Melbourne in a MCG play-off final. He showed great promise and began to claim his status as one of the best young key forwards in the league despite his frail constitution and inconsistent kicking.
Daniher started the 2015 AFL season as the team’s main striker, a difficult position to fill given it was only his third season in professional sport.
