Other announcements have been made regarding the Phase 5 movie, one of which points to the return of Carl Lumbly as Isiah Bradley and Danny Ramirez as Joaquín Torres/Falcon, two characters we have been featured in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Another piece of information reveals that Tim Blake Nelson’s The Leader would be the central villain of the premise.

While all the announcements have left fans eagerly awaiting the movie’s release, Israeli superhero Sabra is an interesting choice that has been added to the amazing mix of characters.

The D23 Expo announcement, as detailed by THR writer Borys Kit, revealed the casting choices for the Anthony Mackie-directed film Phase 5. According to reports, Israeli actress Shira Haas is set to take on the role of Sabra. Haas has starred in projects such as the Netflix miniseries, Unorthodox, historical drama film Mary Magdaleneand 2018 Broken mirrors.

As for the question of who exactly Sabra is, the character first made an appearance in the The Incredible Hulk comics, specifically in issue #250. This was in 1980. Created by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema, the character would go on to make an appearance in The Incredible Hulk #256. Sabra’s real name is Ruth Bat-Seraph.

As for the powers possessed by Sabra, she happens to be a mutant. His abilities include superhuman speed, agility, stamina, reflexes, and durability. Another interesting feature of his mutant powers allows him to have regenerative healing. Interestingly enough, Sabra is also able to improve the physical health of anyone she chooses to give her life energy to. This allows him to recharge them with rudimentary superpowers. The powers others receive are unrelated to the abilities of the Israeli superhero; they are randomized.

Whenever Sabra wishes, she can choose to reclaim her life energy, which also retracts the superpowers she has granted. The downside to this ability is that her regular power levels are reduced each time she chooses to grant energy to him. At the same time, once she recovers her life energy, she regains her original power levels.

It would be interesting to see what this new character brings to the table with his Marvel cinematic debut in Captain America: New World Order.

Regarding the reception of the fans, the reactions are mostly divided. While most look forward to Sabra’s planned debut in the MCU, others question the integrity of her inclusion in Captain America 4. Many are skeptical of what the mutant will serve in the overarching narrative that MCU has been following for years now. Since the details of the Phase 5 effort are still under wraps, people are having a hard time figuring out where exactly the Israeli superhero will fit in.

The inclusion of a mutant superhero seems like an interesting choice from Marvel Studios. We all know there have been hints, easter eggs, and many hints of the existence of mutants in the MCU. Although nothing concrete has yet been seen, perhaps the introduction of Sabra will set up the long-awaited premise of mutants in the future. Sabra is known to have crossed paths with and worked alongside the X-Men in the comics. It would be interesting to see where Marvel goes.
