Warner Bros. Discovery has canceled another upcoming HBO Max show. The studio has announced a reboot for Constantine featuring Sope Dirisu, which was slated to be released on HBO Max. But it was scrapped after the studio announced a sequel to the 2005 Constantine. Since the 2005 movie starring Keanu Reeves, the character has appeared onscreen in a variety of projects. John Constantine’s recent appearance was in Legends of Tomorrow season 6where Matt Ryan played the character.
It’s been years since the first movie came out. That’s why HBO Max decided to start developing a new reboot starring JJ Abrams. A black British actor was needed to play the role in view of a filming start date in early 2023.

Sope Dirisu reacts to HBO Max cancellation
After Warner Bros decided to reboot, they started looking for a black British actor. The studio finalized Sope Dirisu for the lead role with plans to begin production in early 2023. But after Warner Bros and Discovery merged, the studio canceled many projects. The cancellation mostly included DC shows and movies.
Now that the studio has canceled the reboot in favor of a sequel to the 2005 film, Sope Dirisu has shared his thoughts on the decision. The actor took to Twitter to react to the news. He shared fan art of Reeves’ character and wished him the best on his return.

Fans praised Dirisu for making the decision respectively. They wished him the best and said they hoped to see him play the character in the future as well.

JJ Abrams was responsible for developing the reboot as part of his $250 million deal with Warner Bros. As part of that deal, JJ Abrams was supposed to pitch the characters from Justice League Dark with their respective shows. JJ Abrams also had to establish a self-contained universe of Superman. But three years later, no such development has been made.

Warner Bros Confirms Constantine 2
Warner Bros has confirmed the sequel to the 2005 film. The 2005 director Constantine, Francis Lawrence, will also direct the sequel. The announcement received a mixed response. While the film’s fans welcomed the decision, others expressed confusion over its development.
At the time of its release, the film did not receive positive reviews. It also flopped at the box office, and it’s been 17 years since the film’s release. Considering all of these people started to question the studio’s decision.
However, DC fans are excited to see Keanu Reeves back as John Constantine in the sequel. It’s possible that this movie will be based on the ongoing DCEU. However, the studio has not made any confirmation in this regard.
Constantine 2 should also establish a basis for Justice League Darkthat fans have been waiting for so long. Justice League Dark is also a team similar to Justice League. It includes John Constantine, Zatanna, Batman, Doctor Fate, and Wonder Woman.
Not only fans, but the actor has also expressed interest in returning to play the character. No details regarding the film’s plot have yet been revealed. The studio has also not confirmed whether the cast of the original film will return for the sequel or not. Constantine is available to stream on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
