Diego Luna Confirms ‘Andor’ Will Be His Final ‘Star Wars’ Appearance

Andor star Diego Luna has confirmed that the upcoming Disney Plus series will be the last time he portrays the star wars character.

In 2016, Diego Luna entered the star wars Universe in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story like Cassian Andor. One of the film’s main supporting characters, Andor would aid the film’s main protagonist, Jyn Erso, in stealing the Death Star blueprints, leading directly to Star Wars: A New Hope. Unfortunately, he, Jyn, and the rest of the film’s main cast did not survive the events of the film. Ultimately, however, Disney and Lucasfilm weren’t quite done with the character.

The End of the Road for Diego Luna as Cassian Andor

In 2018, it was revealed that Diego Luna would reprise the role of Cassian Andor for a new Disney Plus prequel series. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Diego Luna opened up about the prospect of appearing in more star wars projects as a character. The actor was quick to shoot down the idea, citing that he had been involved in 24 episodes as the character between his two seasons and that was enough for him:

“For me, that’s it. It’s a beautiful journey now that I have 24 episodes, 24 shorter films, to tell the story of where Cassian came from and how he became the man we met in Rogue One.

Here is the synopsis of Andor:

“The ‘Andor’ series will explore a new perspective on the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series tells the story of the budding rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets got involved It is a time filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Andor stars Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Genevieve O’Reilly. Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy, Stephen Schiff and Beau Willimon served as writers for the Star Wars series, while Toby Haynes, Susanna White and Benjamin Caron directed the episodes.

Andor will premiere Disney Plus on September 21, 2022, with three episodes. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
