“Thor 3 and 4 look like Taika Waititi”

Back when Kenneth Branagh wasn’t making film adaptations of Agatha Christie crime novels like Death on the Nile, he was shooting the fourth film in the first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor, which followed Jon Favreau Iron man 2.

The 2011 Thor the film met with critical and commercial success on the eve of its release, with particular praise for the film’s humor and wit, he even drew comparisons to Sam Raimi Spider Man. Fast forward to 2022 and 11 years later, three new movies based on the Norse god have been added to the MCU, and fans still believe Branagh’s work on the 2011 film was far superior to any new ones.

Taika Waititi’s adaptation of films based on Thor- Ragnarok & love and thunder didn’t sit well with fans of the character.

Major criticism was directed at the unnecessary and over-the-top humor of both films, but while Ragnarok was always praised for its thrilling and fun plot, love and thunder did not receive the same praise, with some dismissing it as Ragnarok redux.

Here’s How Thor: Ragnarok Inspired The She-Hulk Director

Much like Taika Waititi’s last two Thor films, Jessica Gao She-Hulk: Lawyer has been the subject of criticism for the series’ lack of seriousness.

The lighthearted tone of the TV show, however, only makes sense, as one of its directors was largely inspired by the first Thor film that Waititi worked on.

Anu Valia, who recently worked on the fifth episode of the TV series, talked about what inspired her to direct the episodes on the friends from work podcast-

“I was watching what Taika Waititi had done with [Thor: Ragnarok]. Like, he balanced that so well. I think that was maybe, out of the Marvel movies, that was like the most important thing in my mind.

“Even the technical thing like improvising with a CGI character, that kind of stuff. So personally, that movie was very close to my heart. But I can’t say that I created the tone or anything, but it was a bit like building.

The nine-episode TV series based on Jennifer Walters still has four episodes to go. With Valia still ready to work on the upcoming sixth and seventh episodes, maybe we can get some of the exciting elements from Ragnarok as well!

All of the MCU’s Thor movies are currently available to stream on Disney+.
