Despite the success of Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise may be set to sue Paramount for costing him millions for the new Epix deal

After years, the Paramount film studio has managed to successfully deliver some of the biggest hits. One of their most ambitious projects Top Gun: Maverick came out as the biggest hit of this year. The movie starring Tom Cruise has proven that if it’s good, people will watch a sequel no matter how long it’s been. But still, Paramount isn’t making a good impression as they’re about to get into legal trouble. Apparently the stars under their umbrella such as Tom Cruise and Sandra Bullock are going to lose millions because of them.

The main cause of this problem happens to be an agreement between Paramount and the American cable television network Epix. Epix, launched in 2008, was a collective venture of Paramount, Lionsgate and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer with a failed attempt to be an HBO competitor.

How Paramount Disturbs Hollywood Bigs

If reports are to be believed, the stars under Paramount are becoming less prominent than expected. The actors mainly make the money from the reduced profits received after digital sales and licensing of their films. But due to a vicious deal between the studio and Epix, those numbers are hugely impacted and that’s what fuels the possibility of Tom Cruise suing the studio.

Recently, the Top Gun: Maverick making studio was also embroiled in a bizarre lawsuit with Top Gun: Maverick where he faced allegations of copyright infringement. Following this, once again, he seemed to have his name under fire. The main issue arose when MGM bought Epix outright, but Paramount kept its movie release deal for another five years. But shockingly despite the deal, they released Paramount+ as their own streaming platform.

As the studio was not allowed to show its own film on its own platform, they agreed on a new deal. With this new deal, the studio agreed to bring its films to Paramount+ after a short 45-day window while Epix extended its deal with the studio for another year. Shortly after, new deals were revealed, such as the deals between Sony and Netflix and Universal and Peacock. Both Netflix and Peacock paid the respective studios significantly more than Epix gave Paramount.

While there’s no update yet on which actors to take legal action, the stars’ legal teams may choose to go the wrong way and sue the studio. This list of stars includes Tom Cruise, Sandra Bullock and Donkey starring Johnny Knoxville. According to reports, they declined to comment on anything, but it is believed that Hollywood unions may take action as their millions are also at stake due to this deal.
