5 Characters We Think (Hope) Will Appear In Thunderbolts

A few weeks ago, the wider Marvel fandom was treated to a few outings and surprises at the Disney Expo. One of the biggest takeaways for fans was the official announcement of the upcoming slate. Love at first sight movie next year. It would be an understatement to say it was controversial and had some fans scratching their heads.

While it’s a complete conclusion that Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige are keeping something back, and that they’ll be more heroes and villains involved than we currently know, the six currently announced haven’t blown anyone away.

For those unaware, the Thunderbolts are essentially Marvel’s version of DC’s Suicide Squad, just without the whole brain bomb. Made up of villains and anti-heroes, they are enlisted to do the most mature jobs that strict heroes could do, and are manipulated by those above them into doing whatever they want, whether they are good or bad.

The current list of upcoming Love at first sight The film is largely uninspiring, with Yelena, US Agent, Ghost, Bucky Barnes, Taskmaster, and Red Guardian making up the team. In essence, it may as well be a Black Widow after. More surprising than the inclusion of Red Guardian and Taskmaster was the absence of Baron Zemo, who most thought was pretty much nailed to appear. That said, here are five characters we’re half-expecting and half-hoping to show up.

Emil Blonsky/Abomination

Emil Blonsky aka The Abomination

As it stands, the current Love at first sight The team doesn’t have a “heavy hitter” and it’s fair to say that Tim Roth’s Abomination would fill that role. It seems unlikely that after fourteen years they’ll bring the character back simply as a side story, comedic fodder for She-Hulk: lawyer, and it seems so easy for his next appearance to be with other anti-heroes/villains. Hopefully the lack of Abomination at the show was due to avoiding any spoilers for the streaming She-Hulk, but we will have to wait.

Baron Zemo

Other fans are hoping for a clever marketing ploy from Marvel, rather than completely dismissing one of the most anticipated characters. Baron Zemo was one of the highlights of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and with Bucky Barnes featuring as one of the team’s main heroes, it doesn’t seem particularly unlikely that we’ll be honored with more Zemo as well. In fact, Marvel made a slight mistake in their ad when it was noticed that Zemo was included in their ad URL, but you can never tell with Marvel.

justin hammer

Justin Hammer was last seen in Iron Man 2.

He hasn’t been seen in twelve years, and Sam Rockwell has mentioned many times over the years that he would welcome a return to the MCU, so why not break him out of prison to be the ‘techie’ of the team ? It’s too simplistic an argument to include, of course, but I just want to see Rockwell back in the MCU, and with the announcement that Tim Blake Nelson will return in a role some fourteen years after his last appearance, Marvel has precedent to bring back older characters.

Echo

Lightnings
Echo, next to see on his show in 2023.

One of the biggest and best characters to be introduced in the MCU’s Phase Four, Echo was so good when he first appeared in the Hawk Eye television show, which she soon received her own show. The character should also appear in Daredevil: Born Again after that. One of the central figures for future street heroes in the MCU, she would make a good inclusion on the team, especially with her previous encounter with Yelena.

red hulk

Lightnings
General Ross played by the late William Hurt.

Pretty much guaranteed that sadly won’t happen due to the sad passing of Thaddeus Ross actor William Hurt earlier this year. Of course, in the comics, General Ross ends up transforming into the Red Hulk in his campaign to stop the Hulk by any means possible. While it would have been great to see Emil Blonsky and Ross swap barbs and not trust each other (including a big-screen fight between the transformed two), that just isn’t going to happen. Even if William Hurt was still with us, that would have been a lot to cram into the movie, as in his last appearance he hadn’t transformed yet or even approached the Red Hulk.

There are countless comedic members of the Thunderbolts, so we’re sure to have some surprises when the movie comes out. It’s also unlikely to be as graphic or easy to trigger as DC. suicide squadbut if Marvel sticks to the source material somewhat, we can expect that at least some will die in pursuit of their mission.

Who else do you think will appear in the next Love at first sight movie, or would you like to appear that you don’t think?
