While the past two years for Letitia Wright have brought heaps of controversy that seem to plague her to this day, it can be seen that the young actress harbors a strong penchant for Black Panther narrative. When the first film, a still-iconic starring Chadwick Boseman, was released to the public, fans were haunted by the jaw-dropping visuals, strong, captivating and compelling characters, and of course, the magnificent story that he had to tell.

Sadly, tragedy quickly struck the world as main star Chadwick Boseman met his demise in 2020. Heartbroken fans, though the least of their concerns at the time, wondered about the point of question that hovered over the premise of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Now, with the superhero mantle still vacant, with plenty of speculation and rumors hinting at various names as potential occupants, Letitia Wright discussed the possibilities of her character, Shuri, becoming the next Black Panther and the emotional journey she is about to embark on in the upcoming film.
How Shuri’s Black Panther 2 Journey Impacted Letitia Wright
In a recent interview with Empire, the young MCU star opened up about his experiences filming on the black panther 2 and how the sentimental expedition undertaken by her tech-savvy character, Shuri, deeply empowered Letitia Wright to live vicariously through her. The film, which is to pay a heartfelt tribute to Boseman and T’Challa, gave Wright experiences that “in mirror” that of Shuri in the film.
According to the 28-year-old talent, his remarkable character’s journey, which began as one of the best supporting characters in the first film and would experience profound growth in the second, allowed Wright to “Cry, cry, laugh and gain strength” in a way she couldn’t imagine having.

Otherwise, The Silent Twins alum had the following to express that she had only two options to choose from, either crumble under the pressure of overwhelming feelings or stand up and maintain a stubborn attitude:
“Trials and tribulations make you what you are. Either you go to bed or you get up and go. I feel like Shuri was looking at me every day, wondering if I was going to go to bed or go back And I kept going until the healing started to happen to me.
Therefore, from such statements, we can elucidate how difficult things were during the filming process. Luckily for Letitia Wright, she drew inspiration from the character she’s been playing beautifully for a few years now.
The plausibility of Shuri becoming the next Black Panther
While rumors have always pointed to Shuri as the most likely candidate to take over from her brother, there are other contenders to consider. Looking back to the 2018 film, there were several strong, formidable, and dynamic characters like Nakia, played by Lupita Nyong’o, and Okoye by Danai Gurira, to name a few. When Wright was asked whether or not she saw the possibility of her character being the one to carry on T’Challa’s legacy, the actress replied: “That’s a difficult question to answer.”
Additionally, she detailed how a few years ago, when Black Panther was being made, she entertained such notions. The idea of Shuri being Black Panther crossed her mind and the actress even had a chat about it with director Ryan Coogler and lead actor Chadwick Boseman.

Here’s what she had to say about it:
“I discussed it with Ryan and Chad when we were doing Black Panther, and we briefly talked about it. When I realized I was playing Shuri, it was something I was really looking forward to.
The answer, admittedly vague, raises several questions. It would be interesting to see exactly what Letitia Wright “looked forward to” while playing Shuri – of course, anything hasn’t happened yet.
For the moment, nothing remains confirmed. Fans will have to keep relying on theories, reports and rumors, speculation, and this one wakanda forever Lego Set that accidentally alluded to Wright’s character taking on the Black Panther moniker.
