When it comes to Thor: Love and Thunder, who would have thought that the film directed by Chris Hemsworth and released a few months ago would still make headlines? Unfortunately, all the new information that’s surfaced seems to do nothing but disappoint MCU fans. In a recent interview, Christian Bale, the renowned actor who meticulously portrayed Gorr the Butcher God, revealed how some R-rated scenes with the villain were cut from the film.

While Marvel has released several deleted scenes from the Taika Waititi-led effort, it’s unclear if fans will ever be able to witness the brilliance of these unfiltered, raw, and presumably gory scenes. Whatever premise was involved, it seemed to have bothered even Bale’s co-star Chris Hemsworth.
Chris Hemsworth’s reaction to the R-Rated Gorr scenes
In the interview with Inverse, Christian Bale discussed how director Taika Waititi and the actor himself tried to push the boundaries of the MCU. As we all know, the franchise is strictly known for its PG-13 attempts. It rarely strays from the line of performances which may not be suitable for a movie-going audience consisting primarily of children and families.
What really happened was that the actor and the filmmaker tried to improvise some scenes that they both knew would never end up being put in the movie. However, they still wanted to test the limits and see if any of them would be feasible as a possible addition. Much to the dismay of many fans, the film was to follow a premise that would allow families to “Go enjoy it.”

Chris Hemsworth seemed to follow a similar line of thought. As Bale recalls, the Extraction alum, between these R-Rated footage, would watch The black Knight star, almost as if telling him that the scenes would indeed go a “little too far” for a film rated PG-13.
Here is the full quote:
“With Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika and I kind of knew that some of the things we were doing probably wouldn’t end up in the movie, but we just wanted to push and see. Ultimately, it is and should be a movie the whole family can enjoy. And Chris Hemsworth, a few times he looked at me, it was like, ‘Man, that’s a little too far. I don’t think anyone wants to see this unless it’s an R-rated movie…”
Bale commented that while he’s unfortunate not to have these scenes in the final cut of the film, it was extremely fun to do them and provided the actor “great joy.” The news discouraged many MCU fans who have always pushed for a good R-Rated Marvel movie. However, as evidenced by American psycho alum, the decision made seems understandable from a business and commercial perspective.

For a loyal movie audience, it would lack luster if they didn’t experience the dynamic range of characters that Christian Bale has portrayed throughout his career. From heroic roles to unconventional villains, but also characters that land somewhere in between – Bale has it all. The talented actor and the magnitude of performance with which he has rewarded his fans has always amazed everyone, critics and the general public alike.
Consequently, with Gorr’s portrayal, fans have long believed that the actor’s vast potential was barely tapped. Previously, fans were disappointed with the lack of screen time he enjoyed in Thor: Love and Thunder and now they learn that the actor’s potential was explored, but none of it ended up making it into the movie.
To say they are pissed off would be to understate it. Looked:

He was so good in the PG-13 rating so imagine how much better he could be in an R rating where he could let loose

tbh they should have gone all out and made a cut of this movie with all the R rated stuff and released it a few months after the original launch. There’s absolutely a market for darker superhero stuff, so why not appeal to both sides

It looks like the criticism of Chris Hemsworth’s film won’t stop anytime soon. With new details uncovered and several deleted scenes further throwing fans off, one can only wonder what the movie might have been like had it not centered its identity around nonsensical comedic elements.
With Christian Bale revealing the existence of R-Rated deleted scenes in the Thor 4 premise, fans yearn for plausibility where they could witness the actor’s unrestricted excellence as Gorr. Alas, such possibilities seem slim for now.
