Blade Reboot Faces Major Setback As Director Bassam Tariq Leaves, Fans Think John Wick Director Chad Stahelski Is Next Best Choice

The era of reboots of fan-favorite movies has been upon us since the turn of the 21st century – some of them are worth watching while others are just a nostalgic cash grab. . Anyway, when the news was confirmed for an upcoming reboot of the Blade movies, it sure had us dancing on our feet.

Blade was officially announced back in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con with a lot of hype, but unfortunately we won’t be getting Wesley Snipes (we’ll be getting Mahershala Ali instead!) wearing Eric Brooks’ boots for the upcoming reboot of the swordsman. But at least we get the reboot, right? Well, it looks like we’re going to have to wait a little longer.

The latest film from the hugely popular Blade franchise Trinity came out in 2004, and it’s been nearly a decade and a half since we saw Eric Brooks wielding his impressive sword.

Production of a prequel trilogy for the character, with Blade (1998) director Stephen Norrington to direct, was confirmed to have started in 2008. But it never saw the light of day as Marvel Studios eventually captured the film rights for themselves, with the master plan to introduce the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fast forward to current confirmation status Blade to restart, Mughal Mowgli director Bassam Tariq was in the front seat of the film as he landed the directorial role for the reboot. As of now, he has stepped down from his role.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported that Tariq left the role unexpectedly, and Marvel Studios followed up with a statement regarding the entire incident.

“Due to ongoing changes to our production schedule, Bassam is no longer advancing as director of Blade but will remain executive producer on the film. We appreciate Bassam’s talent and all the work he has done to bring Blade where it is.

Tariq followed up the statement with his own-

“It’s been an honor to work with the amazing people at Marvel. We were able to put together a killer cast and crew. Can’t wait to see where the next director takes the movie.

Tariq’s departure as director is quite sudden, considering that the filming process was supposed to start this fall in about a week. Marvel Studios is reportedly looking for a new director as we speak, and Marvel’s Twitter army is all in favor that John Wick director Chad Stahelski should take over.

About that blade cameo in Werewolf By Night

Blade’s off-screen cameo in the post-credits scene of Eternals made fans super excited to see even more of Mahershala Ali’s portrayal of the character.

The off-screen cameo surely sparked excitement for the character, but also sparked rumors of an Eric Brooks cameo in future MCU projects, with one of the best films for a possible cameo for Brooks being Werewolf at night.

The rumors make perfect sense, Brooks is a serial killer when it comes to slaying beasts and monsters in the Marvel Universe, and a werewolf is no lesser beast.

However, night werewolf Director Michael Giacchino has kind of debunked the whole rumor surrounding Blade’s cameo in the upcoming Marvel special. Speaking to One Take News, Giacchino said-

“You know what, rumors are incredibly inaccurate I would say…99.9% of the time.”

It’s quite painful to hear, but it doesn’t rule out a connection-

“The thing about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that everyone thinks everything is going to be connected. EVERYTHING. And that doesn’t mean we’re not connected.

However, the director asserts with a suspicion that it is not necessary to “Always show them together.”

We may sign a Blade cameo in the next night werewolf special for now. But with Bassam Tariq gone and filming for the reboot yet to begin, Mahershala Ali could potentially have free space for a while for at least one cameo!

The Blade the reboot will hit theaters on November 3, 2023, right after Halloween.
