Elizabeth Banks received a lot of backlash for the film

While Kristen Stewart has received praise for her acting in Charlie’s Angels, the film itself did not. From the negative reviews to the story to the fight scenes being called unrealistic and the movie being called “not fun”.

Many say that instead of highlighting the women in the film on their own, the men around them came across as the most damaged. The misandry involved in the film was something unappreciated by much of the audience.

Elizabeth Banks regrets

In an interview with The New York Times, Elizabeth Banks has come forward to share her concerns and regrets about the film and its marketing. Stating that the film’s publicity focused on a girl’s movie, Banks however replies that the film was never made for a specific audience.

“When women do things in Hollywood, it becomes this story. There was a story around ‘Charlie’s Angels’ that I was creating a feminist manifesto. I was just making an action movie.

The director states that the film was never intended to be a motto for feminism, but simply an action film. She also said how she wished to make a Impossible mission film but, unfortunately, women do not Impossible mission. She then explained how the only reason she even found an action movie was because it also featured women.

The reboot cost Sony and the co-financiers involved in the making $48 million, but the film’s disappointing opening was only able to bring in $8 million in return. Before the film became available for viewing, Banks explained that the stereotype of men not wanting to watch films directed and directed by women would be reinforced if the film did not perform well.

Although the film didn’t do well, Elizabeth Banks remains proud of the film and the people she worked with.
