‘I’m obsessed with cults’: Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams breaks down after revealing her father abused her childhood, says she was brainwashed as a child

In a podcast interview, Diary of a CEO with Steven Barlett, Maisie Williams revealed aspects of her past and how she overcame pain and reached where she is now. Unfortunately, not without shedding a few tears, the actress spoke of her childhood trauma and how her father had been violent.

Maisie Williams is stronger than she looks

The much-loved actress who rose to fame with the role of Arya Stark in game of thrones, Maisie Williams opened up about her childhood and all she had to go through. At only eight years old, things like skipping breakfast, chronic insomnia and so on had become habitual for her and something she didn’t understand was wrong.

Although she avoided going into detail, she explained her traumatic relationship with her father and how any idea that it was wrong was actually wrong for her. The actress had experienced multiple forms of trauma and abuse that she did not understand at this young age.

Remembering what a big part of his childhood it was brought Williams to tears.

Maisie Williams, teacher, saw the signs

There is no doubt that quite often it is said whether a person is being abused or not; whether it’s the slight twitch or the actual bruising, the mental exhaustion or the inability to say ‘no’. Just like, Maisie Williams’ teacher also spotted such signs in the actress when she was eight years old.

The teacher asked the future actress questions about her meals and more.

“And she was like, ‘What’s wrong, ‘you know, like, what happened? Are you hungry?’ … ‘Have you had your breakfast?’ I said no.’ And she said, ‘Oh, why not?’ And I said, ‘We just don’t have breakfast.’ And then she says, you know, ‘Do you normally have breakfast?’ »

She later shared how her mother picked her up from school and how her whole life suddenly changed. Nothing was hidden behind doors anymore. She claimed that she still wanted to fight for her father because at the time, not understanding much, it was like they were taking her father away from her.

“I was sort of indoctrinated. I think that’s why I’m obsessed with cults. ‘Cause I’m like, I get it. I understand. I was in a children’s cult.

The actress noticed with tears in her eyes. Maisie Williams was then set to play Arya Stark at the age of twelve and played the character until three years ago when ‘game of thrones’ last season aired.
