Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ve probably heard the news that Hugh Jackman is set to reprise his iconic Wolverine role in the upcoming Dead Pool 3, alongside of course Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. Fans have been clamoring for the two to meet onscreen for years, with the two having an iconic bromance dating back to years in the comics, and the chemistry between Jackman and Reynolds hopefully translating to the big screen.
With news comes questions, and questions that will remain unanswered for the next two years, such as Dead Pool 3 isn’t expected to hit our screens until September 6, 2024. Here are five of our biggest.
Will this be a multiversal Wolverine or will they remove the one we know from his timeline?
Fortunately, we already know that this will not be influenced by 2017 in any way. Logan, while Reynolds followed his announcement video with an equally humorous one featuring more Jackman where they describe their upcoming film, albeit mostly covered by a music track, designed to tease us further.

So now we know it won’t have any effect on or from the ending of this movie, the question is exactly which version of Logan will we see? Will they take the Spider-Man: No Coming Home avenue and take the version we’ve seen for years somewhere on his timeline for a standalone adventure before sending him back, or will it be like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and make him a multiverse variant that we haven’t seen anything about. The latter would easily allow for the introduction of the famous yellow suit without having to explain how he got it or why, but would feel less impactful than having the “original” from the Fox movies.
Will it have bigger ramifications for the MCU or will it be more self-contained?
Of all the movies slated for release in 2024, Dead Pool 3 would certainly be the one most would assume would have the least effect on the MCU going forward. Compared to Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and Captain America: New World Order, Dead Pool 3 could easily be one that doesn’t affect the wider MCU, instead being an almost self-contained story focusing entirely on the two main characters, rather than setting things in motion for things to come.
That’s not to say it couldn’t walk on a middle ground like a lot of movies do, but personally if I had a choice I’d rather it be the latter because we’ve all waited long enough for another Deadpool movie, leave alone the one that includes Jackman’s Wolverine.
Will they use the rumored road trip idea?
In 2021, Reynolds outlined the original plan for the film, with Deadpool and Wolverine set to go on a road trip-like adventure together, with each of the characters showing their version of events to the audience. It would have been a goldmine for laughs, with Deadpool’s tendency to play on his involvement in events much of the comics, as well as his one-sided bromance with Wolverine. While Deadpool has an undying love for Logan, it has returned in the form of less than well-hidden stabbings and insults from the latter, which certainly reflects the real-life relationship between Reynolds and Jackman.

That said, it’s highly unlikely that the MCU will continue to use an old, well-publicized idea, or at least not a direct adaptation anyway. Whatever they have in store for us will likely be bloody, comedic, and full of flying limbs and swearing like we’ve grown accustomed to with Deadpool, and Kevin Feige’s promise that Dead Pool 3 would be R-Rated will continue the tradition. If we don’t get at least one time Wolverine stabs Deadpool in the head because he won’t shut up, I’ll be disappointed.
Will any other Fox X-Men be featured?
Of course, Jackman’s Wolverine isn’t Fox’s first character to appear in the MCU, with Patrick Stewart’s Professor X appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s not impossible that the movie will take the opportunity to introduce some of the other mutants we’ve already seen, but they’ve already brought back the biggest fan favorite, so hopefully they’ll focus more on that and less on the other cameos. Apart from Dopinder, of course, we want Dopinder. If they could figure out a way for Deadpool to bring Dopinder across the multiverse with him to the MCU, there would be a lot of very happy fans.
Will this be the last time we see Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine?
For a very long time, fans around the world believed Hugh Jackman’s much-repeated rhetoric regarding Logan being his last time as Wolverine, and for a very long time, fans understood his decision, but were left disappointed by it. Of course, all of that has changed now that we know he appears in Dead Pool 3but that will now bring up the question, will he return?
Marvel has announced its entire Multiverse Saga slate, culminating in Avengers: Secret Wars, which for those who don’t know, is a comedic story where multiple universes collide, bringing together different versions of the same characters, to fight and help each other. considering the filming of Secret Wars would start soon after Dead Pool 3 is about to end, it wouldn’t be the most surprising thing if we saw him involved there, because with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, fans were screaming from the rooftops for implore his involvement since his announcement.
