Moon Knight and X-Men ’97 Writer Beau DeMayo To Write Blade Reboot Script From Scratch After Bassam Tariq Departs

A few weeks before the MCUs Blade reboot filming schedule, the film which had spent 3 tedious years in development limbo, now loses director Bassam Tariq. The fallout from this release is manifold, with the most recent rumors of Blade the lead actor, Mahershala Ali fusses with the drama building up behind the scenes. While no official statement has been made by the head of Marvel Studios as to the consequences of the director’s exit, speculation about Marvel suffering production issues is growing more believable.

Kevin Feige “spreads too thin” with MCU Projects

In recent news, disturbing details about the current situation at Marvel HQ have come to light, starting with Kevin Feige running out of fingers to put in the many pies he’s set in motion. Marvel’s success has always depended on the visionary genius of this man at the top, so much so that his name now evokes a sense of admiration and inspired Warner Bros. Discovery to go in search of its own Kevin Feige. But the dilemma of having just one person in charge is that ongoing projects don’t end up getting the master weaver’s in-depth attention as much as Phase 1-3 projects.

Jeff Sneider from the pinner lit the match to these speculations when he reported,

“I was told that the current BLADE script is about 90 pages long and has exactly TWO (dull) action sequences. Mahershala said he was very frustrated with the process. Feige said he was stretched too thin. is exactly what the sources tell me.

Speculation also stands out as Marvel Studios has ramped up production in recent years since the release of End of Game with an avalanche of projects simultaneously undergoing multiple week-long reshoots or in pre-production or development in limbo with no end in sight.

Blade Reboot – Release Date, Plot, Cast Details

The 1999 and early 2000s trilogy reboot starring Wesley Snipes aka Blade was announced in 2019 and was received with much appreciation and praise from fans. With the added juxtaposition of the brilliant Mahershala Ali stepping into the lead role of hybrid human-vampire hunter Dhampir, the crowd went wild with excitement. Bassam Tariq, who was expected to start filming the reboot by October, will now serve as executive producer on the project instead. Marvel later acknowledged the director’s exit via a statement to The Hollywood Reporterthanking him for “all the work he’s done to get Blade where he is.”

In the aftermath of Tariq’s release, the film would undergo a complete rewrite. The ex-director had previously sung immense praises to Bladethe extraordinary original writer of Staci Osei-Kuffour, who had participated in projects as powerful as The Watchers and The morning show. Osei-Kuffour will now be replaced by X-Men ’97 writer, Beau DeMayo, who will build Blade‘s story from scratch. In keeping with constant production delays and the added burden of a rewrite, it looks like the movie originally slated for a November 2023 premiere could be pushed into a 2024 release instead.

Who is the villain in the MCUs Blade To restart ?

Since Eternals’ release, the post-credits scene had set up Blade’s introduction to the mainstream Marvel Universe perfectly. Although the scene never exclusively featured Mahershala Ali, her brief, no-nonsense introduction set the tone for her role in the MCU battling monsters and stopping vampires from extinguishing the human race. The Eternals the post-credits also set up Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman, aka the Dark Knight, as a potential vampire hunter nemesis.

Plus, given how Marvel is leaning more towards the supernatural aspects of its comics, leaving aliens and robots behind, it could also mean that Dracula, one of history’s most important foes and of course from Blade, could enter MCU. Interestingly enough, Beau DeMayo, who also notably worked on moon knight could take on the two worlds of the MCU by setting up Blade against Khonshu, according to the comics.

The reboot story potentials are vast in every way. Staci Osei-Kuffour’s original and now scaled-down screenplay included a period piece with a plot set in the 1920s, followed by several time jumps. Hopefully Beau DeMayo can bring something even more quirky and memorable from the slash horror genre to the film, considering how Feige preferred the moon knight writer on Osei-Kuffour.

Blade is currently slated to premiere on November 3, 2023.
