Rumors about Henry Cavill joins the MCU as superhero Hyperion has taken the internet by storm. People gave their theories and opinions about the whole situation. Some even think he shouldn’t join the MCU given his past appearance as Superman. However, it’s not just Henry Cavill’s Hyperion who may appear in Loki Season 2. It has been reported that he will be joined by the entire Squadron Supreme in Loki season 2 which will help Kang the Conqueror.
The Squadron Supreme is basically like Marvel’s own Justice League. There have been claims that they will serve as a group of extremely powerful beings marching on the side of evil. Squadron Supreme can even work alongside Kang and help him on his mission. They start as heroes and even help the Avengers on several occasions. However, they always turn back into villains after losing their faith in humanity and seeing themselves as superior beings.
Who are the Squadron Supremes?
The Squadron Supreme was a group of powerful Earth-S superheroes also known as Earth-Squadron. However, what started out as a team of heroes soon turned into a group of arrogant dictators bent on taking over the world. They denounced the government and even overthrew the president. They replaced him with one of their members and began to exercise their control over the world. Squadron Supreme was extremely unethical and followed the motto that the means justify the end. They have taken over the military, the police and every other federal agency in the world. They called it the Utopia program. The program aimed to address social issues such as poverty, disease, crime, and environmental calamities that plagued their world.
Later in the Marvel comics, the Squadron ended up on Earth-616 and had several adventures on the planet. Here they even helped the Avengers on several occasions. However, the squadron was eventually ended when most of the members fell victim to a cataclysmic event, leaving only Hyperion behind.
Members of the Supreme Squadron
Over the years, there have been over a dozen members in Squadron Supreme. However, the first iteration of the squadron involved key members Hyperion who served as the leader, Nighthawk, Power Princess, Blue Eagle, Haywire, Whizzer, Skymax, and Doctor Spectrum. They were pretty much replicas of the members of the Justice League. For example, Hyperion, the all-powerful leader of the squadron, was meant to parallel Superman. Nighthawk, meanwhile, was industrialist Kyle Richmond, billionaire and mansion owner. He was supposed to play the role of the MCU’s Batman. Power Princess was meant to represent Wonder Woman. Finally, Golden Archer and Lady Lark were inspired by Green Arrow and Black Canary. Other members include Doctor Decibel, Ape X, Black Archer, Arcanna, Inertia, Lamprey, and Moonglow.
Their role in Loki season 2 and alliance with Kang
In the Marvel comics, Kang the Conqueror once controlled and manipulated the Squadron Supreme using the Grandmaster as a pawn. It could lead the squadron to the MCU and explore Kang and his mission during the Kang War. They were made to invade and control other worlds in the multiverse. Marvel Studios claimed Kang would pose an even greater threat than Thanos, and he nearly wiped out half the universe. So it seems very plausible that Kang will be aided by a team of strong and powerful supers who will stand against the Avengers.
It may also fulfill the wishes of all Marvel fans who wanted an Avengers Vs Justice League movie. However, the rumor that Henry Cavill would play Hyperion has quite a few flaws. More importantly, it seems unlikely that Henry Cavill will only enter the MCU for a brief role as Hyperion in a series that focuses on a completely different character. Especially since he literally played Hyperion’s inspiration in the form of Superman. Nonetheless, it would still be very cool to see the squadron in the MCU, regardless of the cast.
