The Rookie’s “Labor Day” (Season 5 Episode 2): Recap and Review
Lucy arrives home with Chris, who is thankfully still alive after Rosalind cut off his arms and left him for dead on Lucy’s couch, in The Rookie Season 5 Episode 2 opening scene An Undercover Academy instructor shows up to recruit her into the academy before they have a chance to settle down. According to Lucy, she needs time to sort out some issues in her personal life. She has conflicting feelings for Bradford and feels bad about what happened to Chris, but she won’t admit it.
Chris worries that Lucy won’t accept the offer since she holds herself responsible for what happened to her. He phones Bradford and asks him to persuade Lucy to take advantage of the situation. When Bradford visits Lucy, he encourages her to take the opportunity as it will advance her career.

Introduction
In the meantime, Bradford’s sister is in town getting ready for their childhood home’s open house. After selling the house, Bradford is ready to put his traumatic past in the past. Her sister is grateful to get the funds to help pay her legal fees as she navigates a divorce.
Wesley arrives at the district attorney’s office on his first day on the job as a district attorney. He is not progressing as well as he had hoped. Her supervisor asks her to pick a case to go to trial rather than keep trying to give everyone a free pass. Lopez phones her to ask for help with their corrupt police case, thus saving her day.
By stepping up Officer Thorsen’s training while Harper is on maternity leave, Nolan has the opportunity to gain experience as a training officer. Thorsen calls him the best training officer he’s had so far as the episode ends, and he’s thrilled to have the opportunity. Nolan is approachable and has a wealth of life experience, which makes me believe he would make a fantastic training officer.
More information
When Nolan and Thorsen respond to a request for social assistance, they discover a cop who appears to have committed suicide. A quick preliminary investigation reveals that the policeman was killed. Clues put Lopez and Bradford in charge of the investigation, and they uncover a group of corrupt cops.
As Harper and James move into their new home and prepare for a home birth, James is in pre-labor. Due to her previous trauma, Harper is reluctant to give birth in a hospital. They have a plan and the hospital is only four minutes away in case something goes wrong. When Harper takes an interest in their rowdy new neighbors, James, who thinks he has everything under control, is in for a big surprise.
It turns out that their new neighbors don’t always obey the law. It all started when Harper was forced to talk to them because they were playing loud music. Gunshots were heard after that, but Smitty arrived after contacting the police. Being the lazy cop that he is, Smitty no doubt believed the neighbors when they claimed to be watching Dirt Harry. Smitty’s ability to hold office for so long amazes me.
Their weak justification is dismissed by Harper, who continues to observe them from her home. She watches them place an object that looks like a human body in the trunk of their vehicle. She phones Sergeant Wade and asks him to look into the backgrounds of his neighbors. The neighbors decide to break into their house and assault them, but it’s obvious they had no idea what they were up against.
Miraculously, Harper kills the intruder and gives birth at the same time. I get that this sequence was meant to demonstrate his badass nature, but it was so absurd it actually made me laugh.
The episode review
The decision to be honest with each other, with themselves and with their relationships must be made by Lucy and Bradford. This back-and-forth exchange gets pretty ugly. If this uncertainty persists, Chris and Ashley will suffer harm.
But I’m glad to see Nolan working as a training officer. He has strived for this for so long.
Wesley does a good job trying to improve the system from the inside, but not every situation warrants a warning. I think he’s crazy. And, I hope he will quickly find the necessary balance.
Also, I really hope we can still see James and Harper this season because they make a cute couple.
The Rookie Season 5 Episode 2 Recap
When Nolan and Thorsen respond to a call for social assistance, they discover that a police officer appears to have committed suicide. The policeman was killed, according to a brief preliminary investigation. When Lopez and Bradford take over the case, evidence points to it being a gang of corrupt cops. Elsewhere, Harper and James move into their new home and prepare for a home birth as she is about to give birth. After her last encounter, Harper is tired of giving birth in a hospital.
You have a plan and the hospital is only four minutes away in case something goes wrong. James thinks he has everything under control, but when Harper shows interest in their obnoxious new neighbors, James is in for a big surprise. The new neighbors aren’t the type to uphold the law. When they started playing loud music, Harper was compelled to strike up a conversation with them.
The guns continued to follow, but when she contacted the police, Smitty appeared. As long as his job was secure, it seems Smitty, the lazy cop that he is, believed the neighbors when they claimed to be watching Dirt Harry. Harper continues to watch him from home because she doesn’t buy his ridiculous justification. She watches them place what appears to be a human body in the trunk of their vehicle.
He phones Sergeant Wade and asks him to check his neighbors’ criminal backgrounds. The neighbors decide to raid their house and assault them, but it’s clear they have no idea who they’re dealing with. Miraculously, Harper kills the invader and simultaneously gives birth to a child. While I realize this sequence was meant to demonstrate his toughness, it was so absurd it was humorous.
