In recent years, the equal parts fame and controversy that surrounded Zack Snyder’s mad brilliance have been thrust into the unknown with the arrival of David Zaslav and Warner Bros. Discovery. With the company’s official distancing from the director and his 2021 Justice League film, whatever hopes remained of Darkseid’s possible return have been crushed under the boot of the WB juggernaut.

But the masterpiece, in the age of the digital world, exists forever as an indelible mark. Snyder’s trilogy established the new DC Extended Universe and Reboot, built upon whose back the rest of the franchise’s future now sits. But mostly, it was Henry Cavill and his dark delivery that set the tone, Snyder did the rest with his cinematography, and Zimmer layered it with his composition. Nearly a decade after the film’s debut, very few projects manage to rekindle the sheer sense of wonder that Mone of steel and fewer still manage to follow through with a visionary and equally dark and beautiful trilogy.

The director’s complex but elaborate master plan remained relevant throughout the broad brushstrokes of his masterpiece. Henry Cavill followed it with his well-placed interviews and one or two scattered entries over the years. In a 2021 GQ interview, the actor stoked fandom for a while when he said how keen he was to see the story through and explore all of the multi-faceted layers of Superman’s story. But Zaslav was still to arrive at the time. With growing problems at the parent organization Warner Bros., the lingering hope of ever seeing the Brit in the blue and red suit died a slow, excruciating death.

But in the meantime, Cavill still embodies all the hopes and dreams that come with wearing the Kryptonian suit. In a December 2021 interview at Lorrainethe actor opens up about the intricacies of personifying the role of one of comics’ oldest and most beloved superheroes through the eyes of Zack Snyder.
“You look back and think what a wonderful opportunity. And even if I were to stop playing tomorrow, I can look back and say I wore a cape and talked about the place and I entertained some people.
