Judith Steele our best self.
Jane’s husband Andy and daughter Eleanor have asked that we share some heartbreaking news with our wider network and alumni. On Saturday August 27th, Jane Steele, our Assistant Director, passed away unexpectedly. Our prayers go out to his family, who understandably struggle to understand their tragedy.
Pure Denmark Road was Jane. a mentor, a role model, a cherished colleague and a reliable friend. Without Jane to share it with, our world is less fulfilling.
We all stand together and put the needs and wants of Andy and Eleanor first. Although the loss is great, it pales in comparison to the happiness Jane has brought. She was the best of us, a wonderful wife, mother, friend and valued employee, in Andy and Eleanor’s words. His actions were always selfless. She dedicated her life to being there for others.
Jane’s funeral will be held at Christ Church in Cheltenham on Friday September 30. All are invited to attend the memorial ceremony, which will begin at 11 a.m. If you would like to email the family to offer your condolences or share a memory, please use the following address: [email protected]

Jane was Head of Newent Community School from 2006 to 2013, a time I personally attended from 10th to the end of 6th, despite never having attended Denmark Road. She has always maintained a great reputation and has consistently worked hard to support the students there no matter what. His absence will be deeply felt.
As Liv Millman noted:
It’s really sad because she was such a sweet and welcoming person. Even if you weren’t in her class, she would welcome you and help you if needed. She will be greatly missed, and I extend my love to her family, and to all current and former students of DRHS.

I am really sad to read this. During this difficult time, our thoughts are with his family and friends. TO TEAR APART
As Lauren T said,
It’s painful to read this. Mrs. Steele was the best and most inspiring of teachers, encouraging even those like me who lacked natural aptitude for mathematics. Ms Steele always made learning fun and tried to see the best in everyone so I never dreaded the lessons. I’ll never forget how sweet and hilarious she was. The lovely observations she made in my yearbook are something I will treasure. During this tragic time, our thoughts are with her husband, daughter and extended family.
As Florrie Cole said,
Jane showed me an incredible amount of kindness. His kindness, his encouragement and his sense of humor touched me deeply and I have only wonderful memories of my time in his class. My sincere condolences and best wishes go out to Jane’s family.
