It’s a fact that fans of the Netflix series Stranger Things can never sleep with their eyes closed. You never know what truth bomb will be waiting for you after two weeks, as the writers are always gearing up to tease the fanbase in new and exciting ways. You can never tell when the tides are going to shift on a certain character with a show like this, because you never know when they’re going to change. Suddenly, the authors made the decision to reveal certain information concerning Will (Noah Schnapp) and Bob (Sean Astin) from the second season.
Some fans have grown accustomed to disliking the practice of killing off new characters with each new episode, while the already established characters celebrate horribly in their disturbing surroundings, Hawkings. In Season 2, it was Bob; in Season 3, it was Billy (Dacre Montgomery); and in season 4, it was Eddie, who is our dearest character (Joseph Quinn).
In the meantime, as we await the announcement of Stranger Things Season 5, which has also been confirmed to be the show’s final season, the show’s writers have tweeted out some sensational news. The tweet, which appears to be the first in a series that will follow, is titled “Crazy shit that almost happened.” Will and Bob Newby are the subjects of the first such reveal.
Everyone remembers the horrible way he died in the second season. If not, let’s refresh our memories a bit. Bob ended up being the true hero of the story as he offered himself as a sacrifice to the Demodogs in order to buy time for the others to escape. It was revealed that he was Joyce Byers’ boyfriend at the time and worked at the RadioShack store.
Throughout the season, he has provided the Hawkings gang with his own unique perspective on various issues relating to technology. As a result, it quickly rose to the top of the fan favorites list. Sean Astin, who played Samwise in the first three installments of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, took on the role and immediately became a household name in the fantasy TV realm.
It should come as no surprise that when it comes to a program like the one created by the Duffer Brothers, it’s impossible to just have an idea and follow it. Before you complete the deal with the finishing move, you need to go through a mental checklist of steps to follow. The Foreign Writers have now said that Bob’s death was almost planned in a different way, other than the evil Demodogs, and that it was a possessed will. This was shown in the most recent episode of the show. If something like this had happened, it would have had a significant negative impact on the mental health of Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder), but luckily it didn’t.
However, it makes a lot of sense because season 2 was very difficult for Will’s character, especially because he was possessed by the Mind Flayer, and he still continues to be connected to it, as was also confirmed in the season 4 finale. This makes a lot of sense because Season 2 was extremely difficult for Will’s character. Will’s violent behavior had progressed to the point where he harbored ill will towards some of his closest companions. If we had killed Bob, he would have been traumatized for the rest of his life, like he wasn’t already.
Nevertheless, if this were to be a real event, the Byers family would have been forced to face the harsh consequences of the act in the sequel. Will’s character arc would have been entirely different had he been responsible for Bob’s death; it was already going to have a significant influence on their later lives. The fact that his mind was controlled would have been the main plot focus, so we would have seen a lot more of him. Fans have expressed their displeasure with each new season’s lack of willpower, which is especially disappointing considering the outstanding job Noah Schapp does in portraying the character. It’s possible that this would have solved the problem, but in the end, it would also have changed the dynamic that they all share with each other.
