Anjali Bhimani has done it all in her wonderful career, from television to video games. She recently appeared in the MCU as Aunt Ruby in Ms. Marvel. Anjali has also been very involved in the world of critical role and other tabletop RPG shows. I recently had the chance to speak with Anjali about her incredible career and what it’s like to be a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Critical Role and TTRPG
After acknowledging that I was wearing a Critical Role shirt (completely intentionally), we started talking about how Anjali got involved in Critical Role:
“I met Matt (Mercer) and Marisha (Ray) at the first cast gathering we had at Blizzard the year that Surveillance came out, so it was 2016. During this visit, we ended up talking a lot about our love for D&D and roleplaying games. –Anjali Bhimani
This led Anjali to get involved in the critical role series UnDeadwood, Narrative Phoneand Exandria Unlimited. She also appeared in their animated series The Legend of Vox Machinawhich is streaming on Prime Video.

Ms. Marvel and the State of the MCU
While talking about his television career (one of his favorites being Kevin probably saves the world), we had to start talking about Ms. Marvel and what it was like to be cast on this show:
“Once we got into filming, I was very grateful that they let me do what I thought was good for the character. It was like they were casting the people they let. wanted to cast because they were like the people they wanted to see.–Anjali Bhimani
During our conversation, I wanted to get Anjali’s take on the backlash shows like Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk: Lawyer have received online. Here is part of what she had to say about it, referencing a Native American folk tale:
“A wolf is kind and a wolf is angry and resentful. The child asks, ‘Which wolf is going to win?’ The grandfather replies, “The wolf you feed. is not for you, then it is not for you.–Anjali Bhimani
I’m a fun size, and so are you!
To close our wonderful conversation, Anjali told us about her first book released at the end of September! Here’s what she had to say about it:
“I don’t like traditional ‘self help’, because it’s not self help, I’m reading a book so it doesn’t help myself. I think it’s all very normative, and it’s more like talking to a friend. I hope people will feel like it’s more like talking to a friend. –Anjali Bhimani
Anjali also provided the narration for the audiobook, so be sure to check that out and our full video interview on our YouTube channel very soon!
