She-Hulk episode 8 saw Jennifer Walters teams up with Matt Murdock aka Daredevil. Together they eliminate Leap-Frog and his henchmen. During the episode, several other superheroes are referenced or teased. We have already spoken of She-Hulk referencing Wolverine and Red-Hulk in the second half of the episode. However, a very subtle reference may have been made by Daredevil and She-Hulk during their fight scenes. Actually, it might be a bit far-fetched, but Marvel has named a ton of superheroes throughout She-Hulk. So here is our Morbius theory referenced in episode 8.
Daredevil and She-Hulk reference echolocation
Initially, Jen finds herself in a fight with Daredevil. That was when she still didn’t know it was Matt Murdock in the disguise. When she finally gets the better of Matt and takes off his helmet, she sees it’s Matt Murdock, the posh New York lawyer she just lost a case against. It is then that Jen asks him if he is really blind or if he was pretending. After all, seeing Daredevil’s brilliant action sequences and moves, who wouldn’t ask the same question? So Matt explains that he is truly blind. But he has extremely sharp senses that allow him to perceive objects around him.
That’s when Jen calls it echolocation. Matt Murdock’s or Daredevil’s power isn’t exactly echolocation. He says it himself in the episode to Jen. It has a sonar or radar meaning. Thanks to this sonar sense, he can use the electromagnetic waves coming from his brain, reflect them on the surfaces around him and understand what they are. In fact, echolocation is a word better suited to a different superhero. And it’s none other than Morbius the Living Vampire.
What is echolocation?
Echolocation is basically controlling sounds or rather sound waves to understand the location of objects or people in their environment. This was done by reflecting the waves and understanding the amount of time before the wave returns. I’m sure my fellow science students already know what it is. It is something commonly used by superheroes whose powers are related to sound waves or energy. In fact this technique is used by Daredevil, Banshee, Mara, Locus and finally Morbius. Additionally, real-life echolocation is a feature most commonly found in bats. Bats use sonar technology to navigate at night in the dark. So it’s no surprise that Morbius also possesses the powers of echolocation.
Was it a sly reference to Morbius the Living Vampire?
The reference to echolocation could definitely be related to Morbius. In fact, Matt looked like he knew something about a superhero who used echolocation but chose not to say anything more. After all, we recently saw his echolocation powers in the movie Morbius. He used this power to throw and catch a ball with his eyes closed. Relying only on its sonar capabilities and echolocation. Although this reference does not mean that Morbius will soon be seen in the MCU. It may still be a reference to him. After all, vulture, scorpion, and even venom all exist in the greater multiverse. So Morbius could also exist. Plus, we’d love to see a proper MCU remake of Morbius that does the character justice.
