The Justice League may have been released a few years ago, but to this day it’s still a memorable experience for most people who saw it in theaters. Although the whole film was the center of attention because of the “missing” elements of the film, it was still a box office hit with fans giving it two thumbs up and a salute.
Although some eagle-eyed viewers might recall some oddness when they saw Henry Cavill’s Superman in a few scenes in the film, where the Kryptonian’s upper lip appears to be…. Stain ?
It was a fiasco that happened when the covers of the Justice League were unfolding, and Cavill literally had to juggle both worlds simultaneously. Although it’s now a thing in the rearview mirror, some people just can’t let go of the past.
The “hairy” problem
During the time Warner Bros. had to reluctantly step down from directing Zack Snyder of the Justice League and Joss Whedon had to take over the reins, there were a lot of big changes that needed to be made in order to streamline the production to Whedon’s vision, which also meant re-shooting some scenes.

Henry Cavill, who played Superman for the DCEU, was working for Paramount Studios for his next film mission impossible 6 when he was called in for the re-shooting of Justice League. Cavill was okay with taking on both projects at the same time, but there was a problem.
You see, where Superman was a baby-faced, clean-shaven man, Cavill also played a gentleman with a thick mustache in mission impossible 6. This created a problem as both studios struggled to come up with a solution to this “hairy” problem. During a recent Reddit AMA with an unnamed DC visual effects artist, who explained how Paramount, the “ridiculously petty” studio behind Cavill Mission: impossible 6 was to blame for the facial hair fiasco.
The “ridiculously petty” solution
According to the artist, Paramount refused to go along with the idea of Cavill keeping his mustache, even though, according to the artist, it’s easier to add facial hair in post-production than to remove it. Even after the VFX team demonstrated that facial hair can be added in post-production edits and even when Warner Bros. went so far as to fund the costs of producing Cavill’s facial hair in mission impossible 6Paramount Studios has always said no.

Thus, the team had no choice but to use CGI during filming. Although the artist said his team worked on much of Cavill’s facial reconstruction, they didn’t take blame for the Superman film’s clumsy opening shot, in which Cavill’s face is clearly… off.
“I don’t know what other studio did that first photo on the cellphone, but it’s appalling,” writes the artist. “It shouldn’t have been approved internally let alone go all the way to make it into the movie. That kind of shocked me. We were all staring at each other when the movie started like ‘wtf is that it? !’ »
But alas, what’s done is done. Even though it was noticed by many, viewers still enjoyed the movie as it was. Although it is up to an individual to conclude who was petty and who was fair, it still tells us how important facial hair is for a man.
