New concept art by Taika Waititi Thor: Love and Thunder honors Brett Goldstein’s Hercules.
One of the two post-credits scenes of Thor: Love and Thunder featured the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of Hercules, starring two-time Emmy winner Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso) playing the Greek demigod. The scene saw Zeus sending Hercules after Thor, setting up the return of all three characters in future MCU projects.
Hercules is featured in a new piece of concept art from Thor: Love and Thunder, shared by Andy Park, Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios. The artwork shows Brett Goldstein in full Hercules costume, holding the Golden Mace, a weapon forged by the Olympian god Hephaestus.
Earlier this year, Thor: Love and Thunder Director Taika Waititi has revealed that the decision to cast Brett Goldstein as Hercules came from Marvel’s Kevin Feige. Son of Zeus and a mortal named Alcmene, Hercules is based on Heracles, a hero from ancient Greek mythology. It was adapted by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, debuting in the pages of 1965 Journey into Mystery Annual #1.
Here is the synopsis of Thor: Love and Thunder:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on an unprecedented journey – a quest for inner peace. But his retreat is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magic hammer, Mjolnir, as Mighty. Thor. Together they embark on a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s revenge and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor the sequel stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
