Several Wakanda-centric Disney+ shows are reportedly in development. After the sequel’s release, it’s unclear if Ryan Coogler will return to direct another Black Panther movie. It’s no secret that the director is teaming up with Marvel Studios to create Disney+ spinoffs. Marvel claims that Wakanda’s influence will extend far beyond the country’s borders.
Marvel Studios has shown plenty of excitement for streaming prequels and sequels to its massive film series as the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands on Disney+. The latest information is that Coogler’s Wakanda project for Disney+ is still in the brainstorming phase. Okoye, played by Danai Gurira, is said to be the star of an “origin spin-off series” that will air soon on the site.
Several Wakanda-centric shows confirmed
According Variety, Marvel Studios is producing potential Black Panther Disney+ spin-offs with Ryan Coogler’s production company Proximity Media. The director of the 2018 Marvel film Wakanda Forever is also producing the upcoming Ironheart TV series, which will act as a direct sequel to the film in 2023.

According to previous rumors, Marvel Studios is working on two Black Panther spin-offs, one centered on the kingdom of Wakanda and the other tracing the roots of Danai Gurira’s character, Okoye. The most recent statements, however, suggest that the first unnamed initiative is likely still in its infancy.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige says they have discussed making a third Wakanda film together, but have no plans to adapt the director’s script for the blockbuster Multiversal.
The director explained how he is now preoccupied with fulfilling what he sees as his ultimate commitment as a filmmaker: releasing Wakanda Forever. Coogler has been tight-lipped about his plans for future films, although he said he plans to take “rest and family time” soon.
“It’s very difficult because you’re exhausted and emotionally drained, and I’m trying to give it my full attention. After that, I’ll find out what’s happening to me. But I think it’s going to be rest and family time.
Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore in a later interview with Variety alluded to the spinoff saying that Wakanda Forever will provide “more opportunities to return to Wakanda”:
“This world is big and there are so many great characters. Beyond what is happening with this movie, there are more opportunities to return to Wakanda.
Wakanda Forever gives hope
Nate Moore has hinted that some concepts for several Wakanda-centric Disney+ spin-offs will have returning protagonists from the Black Panther franchise, while others will feature brand new characters. There’s no shortage of ideas, the producer said, but he wouldn’t say how many spin-offs are currently in the works.
Given that the original ‘Black Panther’ picture made over $1 billion at the box office and the sequel is currently garnering great reviews with an 86% rating for Rotten Tomatoes, it’s easy to understand why wonder The studios would like to keep going back to that. Ryan Coogler’s biggest contribution to the series so far has been the introduction of a host of interesting new characters and settings in the fictional African nation of Wakanda.
Without giving anything away, the story and characters of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” are well suited to become a Disney+ series or two. Of course, this is great news for Disney, as the company looks to continue building its streaming and MCU empires.
