House Of The Dragon exceeds one billion minutes of audience, Rings of Power is nowhere to be found

House of the Dragon has dominated social media conversations since its release and now dominates the charts with its viewership numbers. According to recently released figures, over a billion minutes of the Game of Thrones prequel series were watched in just one week! Learn more below:

Nielsen has released its Top 10 streaming rankings for the week of October 17-23. And House of the Dragon has found a place there with over a billion minutes watched on HBO Max. Note that since dragon show airing Sundays at 9 p.m. and simulcast on the streaming platform, so the early hours of the Season 1 finale release (airing October 23) have therefore been included in the numbers above.

So once Nielsen releases viewership numbers for the week of October 24-30, we’ll see how House of the Dragon fared in the week after its finale. But its current figures are not to be neglected. It nabbed 3rd place on the list, eclipsed only by “The Watcher” and “The School for Good and Evil”, which have 2.595 billion minutes and 1.058 billion minutes watched respectively. Meanwhile, Amazon Prime Video’s “The Rings of Power” couldn’t be found anywhere on it.

The Lord of the Rings prequel series dropped out of the charts completely just a week after it finished airing the final episode of its first season. However, in its last week, it scored 1.1 billion minutes viewed. And before the week of October 17-23, the show had indeed passed House of the Dragon on the Nielsen streaming charts. Impressively, it had done this for a total of six out of the seven weeks when both shows released new episodes.

Also, comparing the two shows on the data alone shows that we are comparing apples to oranges. For one thing, the two have different broadcast schedules and they are formatted differently. In addition, their number of episodes is different. House of the Dragon boasts of 10 while Rings of Power only has 8. So the George RR Martin’s Dragon Show gets a boost in minutes viewed.

However, House of the Dragon fans need not be disappointed. Variety reveals that about a third of the show’s viewership comes from people who watch it through HBO’s cable channel rather than streaming on HBO Max. So this issue of Nielsen does not encompass its full audience. This means that House of the Dragon’s cumulative numbers would be much higher.

But it remains to be seen if the series has any power and can hold on to the rankings in its final week.
