If Thor makes a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Hemsworth wants the tone to be noticeably different. Once Taika Waititi took over Thor: Ragnarok, the thunder god’s tone got a dramatic metamorphosis as the acclaimed director prioritized humor. Due to the overwhelmingly positive reaction to the edit, the humorous version of Thor was saved for the sequel. Thor: Love and Thunder increased the humor, but critics and viewers had different opinions about the film. The unexpected turn of events has left Thor’s future in the MCU uncertain.
Nonetheless, Chris has broached the subject a few times since his return. The Avengers: Endgame star previously said he would continue to show up until someone asked him to leave the stage. However, he recently added that if a fifth film develops, it could be his last.
Chris Hemsworth has since explained how Thor 5 should differ from the character’s previous standalone films. The MCU actor claimed during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that his return to the MCU should be very different from what fans have seen recently.

Chris Hemsworth recently said that “you look at Thor 1 and 2, they are quite similar. Love and Thunder and Ragnarok are comparable. It needs to be reinvented, in my opinion. With Infinity War and Endgame, I had the rare opportunity to make some really dramatic changes to the character. It makes me happy because I want to keep people guessing. That sticks in my mind. I continue to invest myself. I’ve said this before, but I believe there’s a risk of being lazy when something gets too repetitive because I know what I’m doing. So I’m not sure.
Hemsworth said he has not yet been “invited”.
“Again, I don’t know if I’m even invited back,” he said. But for my own sanity, if I had to, I think the tone and everything would have to be completely different. The latter drove Thor crazy. He must be out of this right away.

The less positive reaction to Thor: Love and Thunder seems to indicate that fans don’t like the completely humorous Thor as much. Hemsworth has already expressed his love for the new approach quite openly, but it seems even he isn’t entirely happy with the tone remaining the same for upcoming performances. If so, Thor’s comedic tone needs to be changed if Marvel Studios wants to keep Hemsworth on board. This could prevent Taika Waititi from returning for Thor 5.
The direction of a change in your potential for the superhero is very obvious given that Hemsworth recently hinted that he might be ready to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe and witness the death of Thor. Although the first two Thor movies were more dramatic, they weren’t as serious as other MCU entries like the Captain America movies. If Hemsworth gets his request to kill Marvel’s Thor, the sequel must have a tone that can support an emotionally satisfying conclusion. Another possible explanation for Hemsworth’s desire for change is the comedic tone of Thor: Love and Thunder, which doesn’t quite fit in that sense.
