Is the Kang in Ant-Man 3 the same as in Loki? Peyton Reed clarifies

MCU Phase 4 is over and its next phase will be ushered in by Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Fans are eagerly awaiting the movie and they are especially eager to see Kang in it. But there’s one question everyone is asking: is the Kang in Ant-Man 3 the same one we saw in Loki? Director Peyton Reed has now answered the burning question.

Who is the Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania?

Kang to Loki

Kang’s first appearance in Season 1 of Loki opened new multiversal doors for the MCU. But at the end of the season, we saw Sylvie kill this version of Kang. Now, since Kang the Conqueror appears in Ant-Man 3, the question naturally arises as to whether the two Kangs are identical.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, Ant-Man 3 director Peyton Reed refuted this theory. He said that:

“Kang in our film is a very different character [from the one we saw in ‘LOKI’]”

It makes sense that the Kang we’re going to meet in the next Phase 5 movie is a different variant. After all, one of the intriguing things about Kang are his various variants scattered across the multiverse. So whoever Scott and company will encounter is different. As such, the better question to ask is: what is Kang doing in the quantum realm?

Empire Magazine answered this question, revealing that Kang was actually stuck there. But who left it there? And above all, in accordance with the Pictures D23, what was stolen from him? These are questions that will only be answered in the film. But we can theorize.

What was stolen from the conqueror?

In the D23 footage shown for Ant-Man 3, we saw Jonathan Majors’ antagonist blackmail Scott Lang into helping him on his mission to get something back. While our titular hero wanes at first, but it’s clear he’ll make Kang’s wishes come true one way or another.

But what does he want in return? Maybe it’s something that will help him break out of the quantum realm. Maybe a time travel device like his temporal chair? But who could have stolen it? There are two major candidates- MODOK and Krylar (Bill Murray’s intriguing character) who could have done it.

We’re leaning more towards the old character as his funko pop for the movie is out. Thus, signifying his presence in the film. But how he robs Kang has not been disclosed. We will have to wait until 2023 to see it.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will hit theaters on February 17, 2023.
