It’s not every day that the embodiment of a Hollywood icon is mesmerized by someone above her arm swing. But it happened to Tom Cruise who hasn’t stopped fangirling over Henry Cavill’s tiny but unforgettable feature where the latter flexes his arm muscles before an action sequence by extending them forward in succession fast, looking like someone was reloading a gun. Cruise later recounted the moment during a BBC Radio 1 interview with Ali Plumb:

“We watched this over and over in rush in the editing room. We’re like, ‘How did you do that Henry?’ »

During one of their action sequences when Walker has yet to be revealed as Lark, the duo battle a man they misinterpret as the leader of the Apostles. The scene that unfolded between Henry Cavill, Tom Cruise and professional stuntman Liang Yang turned out to be the epicenter of the fight in the now infamous bathroom and where Cavill comes up with his ‘arm reloading’ sequence . When asked about it, the actor claimed it wasn’t scripted or planned:

“It was just really in over my head. I just felt right then. And then I got a little shy afterwards. And I didn’t do it for the next take. And then McQ is came to me and said, “Why didn’t you do the thing?” I said, ‘What thing?’ He came over and showed me the monitor, I was like, “Oh, okay, cool.”

The action sequence which had to be filmed in a few days instead took weeks due to the intensity of the scene and its intricacies. Cavill revealed that the intensive weeks of stunt shooting would hurt his arm muscles during the continuous shoots and that the move that would later be dubbed ‘arm reloading’ was originally intended to flex his cramped muscles. .
