According to current rumors, the new Marvel villain from “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” has been revealed – and he would go very well with the title of the MCU film.
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness “should live up to its title, as Elizabeth Olsen recently announced. The Scarlet Witch actress will switch to the cinema department of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after “ WandaVision ” and promised us a gruesome horror atmosphere during the film. Now we could also know which opponent is responsible for it.
Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) allegedly faces Shuma-Gorath, a giant interdimensional tentacle monster with a large eye in the center of its body. At least that’s what Illuminerdi reports after insider Daniel Richtman previously announced that Shuma-Gorath would soon play a role in the MCU.
Both sources are to be used with caution, however, as in the past, they have often been wrong with their announcements. However, there are very good reasons why they might be right this time.
That is why Shuma-Gorath is a danger to the whole multiverse.
Shuma-Gorath is definitely a threat to “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. In Marvel Comics he has a history with Doctor Strange and his teacher, the elder. But the tentacle monster also fits into the MCU. The film finally plunges into the multiverse, Shuma-Gorath is again the ruler of hundreds of realities in the comics. He is also an extremely powerful opponent: He can change his form in the template, teleport himself, copy the magic of others and manipulate reality itself, which would make some horror interludes. Shuma-Gorath is said to have the power to destroy several galaxies with ease.
Definitely not an easy task for Doctor Strange, if Illuminerdi’s report is correct. Luckily he can count on the support of Scarlet Witch either way, who with her chaos magic can keep up with the power of Shuma-Gorath. Especially since the MCU debut of America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) awaits us in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, who for her part can travel through dimensions. According to Illuminerdi, Shuma-Gorath wants to catch that Chavez in order to steal her powers and thereby be able to rule over the entire universe.

A possible indication that this is actually true could be provided by a leak from August 2020. At that time, alleged statements from an application video for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” made the rounds. Even before the official confirmation, they suggested an appearance by America Chavez, who probably spoke to Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch in the scene. It was also about an unspecified demon who is said to have bitten a part of a city. It was also said that this demon wanted to kidnap a person still unknown to us, who then explains the multiverse. This person could be America Chazev, so the leak fits in very well with the new information from Illuminerdi. Of course, that is not enough for confirmation.
So far, the favorite for the role of villain in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was the interdimensional demon Nightmare. Scott Derrickson, who directed Doctor Strange, even brought Nightmare up for discussion at the time. However, that was before the departure of the director, who was replaced in the sequel by Sam Raimi (“Spider-Man”). We’ll surely find out who will really be the magician’s adversary before the cinema release: “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is due to open on March 24, 2022.
