As per the current update, it has been said that there is no need for a booster shot for the general public as per various scientists of the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). FDA further stated that there doesn’t seem to be an issue with the vaccines and not much proof has been obtained as of the vaccine’s efficacy decreasing.
Booster Shot Not Needed Currently For COVID-19 Vaccines States FDA
This paper was authored by 2 senior scientists of the FDA namely Dr. Marion Gruber and Dr. Philip Krause both of whom are to be retired in the coming November and October of 2021. There were no details about the retirement of these 2 scientists by the FDA and this has also sparked some questions if they are retiring on their will or made to step down forcefully by the organization amid the booster shot debate.
Many organizations around the world and the FDA is currently checking the efficacy of the vaccines that have been administered to the general public. It has been observed that the current vaccine is highly effective against all the currently found viral variants of the coronavirus even the delta variant as well. The scientists said that there is still a good option to learn about the boosters before giving it out to the general public. The WHO has put on a hold on all the booster shots till the end of September.
The post published in The Lancet states that scientists have not found any credible evidence as to the need for a booster shot as the current vaccine has good efficacy for all the symptomatic diseases. The scientist also stated that currently available vaccines should be given out to all the people out there which will make sure that these people have a good fighting chance against the virus and will also help in containing the spreading of the virus.
The FDA and other health care industries will be meeting this Friday on deciding whether the booster shots are necessary at this point in time. In this meeting, the makers of Pfizers and BioNtech`s scientists will also be present and it is said that the third dose can be administered to people above the age of 16 as well.
In the article published in Lancet, it is stated that saying a boosting is needed will make people lose confidence in the primary vaccination itself which is of grave concern itself. The scientist stated that the health care workers should first focus on making sure that all the people are vaccinated at least once which will help them in the long. As of now still, around 80 million eligible people have not yet got their first dose of vaccine and the number of cases is increasing on a daily basis in the US.
Among the newly hospitalized cases, roughly 24% of the cases are from kids who are not eligible for the vaccination drive. This comes after many of the schools have been re-opened all across America. CDC has given strict instructions to the schools as to maintain a good sanitized environment and to conduct various seminars on educating the kids on the importance of washing their hands and on the use of masks.
Among others news WHO has urged the wealthy nations to not use the booster shots until it is available to all the countries. WHO has asked all the countries to wait until the end of the year as well before administering the booster shots and only to go ahead if there is substantial evidence supporting the need for the booster shots.
