Every participant completed a food – frequency, which is often used to assess a people’s diet and lifestyle inflammation propensity. The survey asked about milk products, grains, fruit, veggies, meats, seafood, legume (beans, lentils, and peas), fat intake, alcoholic drinks, stimulants, and desserts, among other dietary categories eaten in the earlier month. A diet inflammation rating could vary between -8.87 to 7.98, with greater values suggesting a more inflammatory meal including less fruit, veggies, legumes, even tea or coffee consumption.

“There may be some potent nutritional tools in your home to help fight the inflammation that could contribute to brain aging,” said study author Nikolaos Scarmeas, MD, Ph.D., of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. “Diet is a lifestyle factor you can modify, and it might play a role in combating inflammation, one of the biological pathways contributing to risk for dementia and cognitive impairment later in life.”

The research examined 1,059 persons in Greece who were not suffering from dementia and had a mean age of 73. Many elements in all meals, according to Scarmeas, add to the inflammation character of an individual’s food.

The individuals were separated into three organizations: those with the fewest diet proinflammatory values, individuals having a medium total score, and ones having the top marks. The research is neither a randomized study but rather an observation one. It’s doesn’t establish that consuming anti-inflammatory food reduces dementia or mind aging, but it certainly suggests a link. Scientists discovered that each one-point rise in diet inflammation rating is linked to a 21 percent rise in dementia incidence despite controlling for age, gender, and schooling. Individuals in the highest 1/3 of the study were three twice greater prone to acquire dementia than individuals in the bottom 33% who ate the less aggressive food.

A third restriction is the limited three-year follow-up period. Such results will have to be confirmed and replicated in larger investigations.
