The everyday rising cases in the United States have become a major matter of concern for all the authorities in the nation.
When on 3 December morning, 5 instant cases of the new omicron variant were detected in New York City shook everyone. The Governor of New York City, Kathy Hochul, released a statement from her official Twitter account stating that “there is no need to panic and the situation is under control”.
The Rising Cases In New York City Have Become A Major Concern
She also urged all the New York citizens to stay calm and focus on curbing the increasing number of cases in the state.
As per the latest report available, the number of omicron cases in New York City has risen to 20 and these are confirmed as announced by the Governor, Kathy Hochul.
She also stated that 13 cases out of 20 are from the metropolitan area of NYC. As per the state medical authorities, the cases will rise further as more people will be traveling back to their homes for the festive season.
Many health care agencies are claiming that there can be a further community spread of the new omicron variant. Although there is no official statement released either from President Joe Biden and the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Gov. Kathy Hochul said that we expect community spread of this newly founded strain. To curb the rise of the omicron variant in the state, the government has decided to mandate masks for all the indoor public places in New York.
The masking requirement is applicable to all which includes all the staff members and the public. She also stated in her announcement that the eligibility will start from the upcoming Monday and will stay as a rule until 15 January 2022.
As per the officials, the mask mandate decision has been taken to reduce the community spread during the festive season. During the Christmas holiday time, people travel back to their homes to spend quality time with their families, shopping, parties will be common and masking will help us to reduce the risk.
The Governor of the State has suggested the entire population get vaccinated as soon as possible. Also, she has directed all the health officials and hospital authorities to increase the vaccination rate, as getting jabbed is the only way to decrease the spread of the new omicron variant in the United States.
Also, on Thursday Pfizer stated that their 2 dose vaccination is good for the severe illness but won’t be able to fight effectively against the omicron variant. The company has suggested a third dose of vaccines, especially for the low immunity elders.
Dr. Anthony Fauci has also claimed that the vaccines are not very effective against omicron strain and the vaccination developers need to work on the optimization of current vaccines.
Kathy Hochul has been urging all the fully vaccinated adults to receive the booster shots. It is the best alternative to increase immunity power.
