The cases of the new Covid variant ‘Omicron’ are emerging in various parts of the United States. Until the end of the last week, there were no cases of the new variant of Covid 19 in the state of Ohio.
As per the latest reports, Ohio identified officially two cases of the Omicron variant. The doctors while addressing this situation said that “ it is not surprising at all, with the wake of the new Covid variant; it was expected that sooner or later Ohio will soon have the Omicron covid case.” Moreover, in the Buckeye state recently Omicron cases were found too.
Ohio Reported Two Cases Of The ‘Omicron Covid Variant”
The Ohio Department of Health broke this news through a press release and confirmed that through lab testing, we detected the omicron cases in the state and both were males. Also, the officials stated that both were fully vaccinated but had yet to receive their booster shots.
Just like many other cases in different states, the symptoms were mild and not severe enough that require hospitalization.
The Ohio Health Director commented on this saying, “ It is not a shock for us as we’re already prepared for the cases, we should address the situation calmly as there is no need to panic. There is no reason to panic at all.
He also said that it was obvious that the highly transmissible Covid variant was expected to reach our communities.
The Ohio Health Officials also acknowledged the fact that there is very little data available on the new Covid variant. The new variant is under study and scientists and medical experts are running tests and medical trials to study the characteristics of this variant to reach a conclusion.
The Ohio Department of Health is urging all the unvaccinated population to get vaccinated and protect themselves and their families to enjoy this Christmas festival season.
Till now almost 22 states have received at least one case of the omicron variant and Only New York State has detected 20 confirmed cases and the Governor of NYC has stated that there are high chances of community transmission of this new subtype.
Meanwhile, people need to be more attentive and agile. People must come forward and take their dose of vaccination at the earliest. As the new variant has reached our state, we need to be more alert and follow social distancing wearing masks at the public places and get the shot of vaccination as well as a booster.”
The US CDC has explained the significance of booster and Covid vaccination to protect oneself from the infection and also exerted on the early studies that show the new variant is not a severe illness, however, it is too early to draw definite conclusions and we must wait for the official announcement.
The medical authorities said the hospitalization due to the Delta variant is mostly observed in unvaccinated patients, thanks to vaccines that the severe illness is now preventable.”
The fact that 90% of Covid cases in Ohio are due to the Delta variant and the two men who have tested positive for the Omicron variant had some mild symptoms only. The current hospitalization due to Covid in Ohio is around 4,600. The last time Ohio has witnessed such an increase in the number of hospitalizations was a year ago.
