Offer Emotional Support To Kids During Pandemic

Plenty of research and study has always been done about the impact of giving emotional and mental support to patients. Once a person manages to stay happy, the first battle of the treatment is already won. It is all about how we think and feel. Our thoughts make us ourselves says experts in the field of Pediatrics.

It is almost two years since the covid breakout. We people have gone through much pain and have lost our loved ones. All people needed was love and affection because we did not have any vaccines to win this fight.

Covid-19 was not something that could be stopped just by taking vaccines. Most of the people died because they lost hope and got panicked. Human beings are social beings, and we need people around us.

The isolation of Covid was proved to be the most challenging part. People suffering from covid were forced to stay away from their family members. Children, young adults, and old ones needed much attention and care.

As the pandemic started sweeping all across the world, fear, worry, and concerns were also spreading. Our day started with wailing, the noise of people shouting, sirens of ambulances, and ended with fear. Each day count of covid was rising, and the chances of us surviving were decreasing. Doctors and scientists were our only hope.

The entire lifestyle and routine of people got disturbed. Quarantine and this sudden shift to the online world added more trouble to our lives. People found it hard to get used to the new normal.

Recently, the American Academy of Paediatrics passed a set of guidance, which represented that giving emotional and mental support to patients was important.

Emotional and mental wellbeing has always been a major concern for everybody. Pandemic and quarantine contributed to the same. Special instructions were given to deal with infants, kids, teenagers, and families.

People are unique and have different levels and ways of reacting to changes across them, and the same can be applied here as well. A study was recently conducted on the impact of covid on the minds of people. Out of every five people, four were depressed, and 1 had issues with anxiety.

This outbreak kept a stop to everything. All the companies were shut-downed, people lost their jobs, had no food to eat. Corona Virus had a major impact on economic conditions, unstable housing, etc. People need 3 basic things to be alive, food, shelter, and clothe.

Pediatricians must recognize and focus more on providing mental and social support while dealing with them. While treating a kid, a pediatrician should try to know the reason behind the discomfort or unusual behavior of the kids.

Getting to know the reason will help a pediatrician to treat well. Kids particularly were not prepared for covid; all of this was too much for each one of us to digest and understand. There are a few kids who lost their parents or who were kept in isolation for the treatment.

Being quarantined, staying away from your loved ones, not getting to know the taste of your favorite food, and shifting to new normal was not easy for any of us.

As of now, 41% of people are fully vaccinated all across the world. Things are getting back to normal, but the voids in our hearts cannot be filled.

Kids have seen much and might not overcome all of this so soon; therefore, a doctor should emphasize kids’ mental and emotional states. It has been mentioned in the guidance that it is vital to check the impact of covid on parents and family members of the kid.
