On Sunday, approximately 1400 flights within the United States were canceled, and approximately 5900 flights were delayed. Over 4000 flights were delayed or canceled on Christmas, leaving holiday travelers in a bind.
The infection amongst the staff members has been blamed on the shortage of labor and which lead to either cancellation or delay of the flights.
Flights Canceled, Hospitalization In The United States Has Increased Due To An Increase In Cases
Delta, United, and JetBlue have had to cancel flights due to a staff shortage caused by an increase in Omicron variant cases in the United States. Many workers were driven out of the industry last year as a result of the collapse of air travel and the failure to maintain the resurgence in demand.
It has been stated that weather issues also played a significant role in flight cancellations, and people were forced to cancel or postpone their holiday plans and celebrated the festival at home only.
As per the data available, the cases in the United States are increasing at an overwhelming rate and creating a sense of panic amongst the medical agencies. Currently, the average daily cases in the US have surpassed more than 200,000 and it is increasing very fast.
Dr. Anthony Fauci has already warned of the upcoming wave of the Covid 19 infection and in this wave, both the delta version and Omicron variant will play important characters and the deadly combination will lead to excess cases in the country and leave the medical system under stress.
Hospital admissions have also begun to rise in the United States, despite the fact that the number of cases is much higher.
In the United States, cases of the highly transmissible Omicron variant have surpassed Delta cases and now comprise around 75 percent of the total cases in the nation.
Although the medical experts are claiming that the severity of this new variant is not high but the transmission rate is lethal and which makes it more contagious and hence it can infect more than 100 million people in the United States including unvaccinated and vaccinated citizens.
As per Dr. Fauci, non-vaccinated citizens are at a higher risk level as compared to vaccinated people.
The hospital admissions have exceeded 70,000 which is a 10% increase from the previous 14 days and it is expected to rise further by 20 percent by next week as per some health officials.
The transmission rate will lead to an increase in hospitalizations, particularly among the unvaccinated. This can lead to the country’s situation becoming overwhelming. Some medical researchers are claiming that there will be a total of 20 percent hospital admissions which were 45 percent at the time of the delta variant.
Earlier this month, a state of emergency was declared in New York, and many non-covid medical treatments were halted at numerous hospitals keeping in mind the level of cases.
Even though the situation of rising cases is difficult to control, data from officials show that vaccination is the best way to protect against severe illness caused by COVID. People who have not been immunized have a much higher risk of contracting the virus.
