People who have heart disease must follow tips and diets in order to stay healthy. Usually, heart patients are under tracking and monitoring to navigate their conditions. Similarly, people living near snow regions have to shovel snow every year, and many people are dying just because of shoveling snow.
Shoveling Snow: Beware Of Heart Hazards
According to a report of the United States, most people are led to death due to shoveling snow. Based on the thorough research report says that shoveling snow is linked with heart hazards.
Study says that the majority of people are admitted every year because of heart problems and chest pain. The study reveals the connection between heart diseases and shoveling snow. In the previous years, in the United States people who were admitted into the hospital, 68,000 deaths were reported only due to heart attack because of shoveling snow.
Usually, men are affected by heart diseases compared to women because of snowfalls. Longer snowfalls increased the higher rates of deaths and heart attacks, usually among men compared to women.
A recent study suggests that men are at an increased risk of regular fatal heart attacks after a heavy snowstorm. Men are 16 percent more likely to have a heart attack during the snow periods, and 34 percent have significant chances of death due to heart attack. But meanwhile, no woman has appeared with an increased risk of a heart attack after the heavy snowfall.
Many studies have revealed the links between shoveling snow and the risk of heart attacks or deaths because of heavy snowstorms. Right now, this study is offering insights regarding the connections to examine the health data among individual patients and hospitalized patients.
Dr. Nathalie Auger is the senior author of this study, and he says that there are five major precautions to cope up with cold weather to avoid heart disease:
- Exerting of yourself must be avoided
- Cold exposure should be limited
- Flu shots should be received
- Overheating of your body should be avoided
- Alcohol consumption is prohibited
A close study observed that snowfall and heart attack are linked with duration and quantity among men compared to women.
Till now, researchers only found elevated risks among men due to shoveling snow, but more findings are suggested to the people for being cautious during shoveling snow. The most suggested thing is to avoid shoveling completely during snow seasons to stay away from heart disease.
Auger is the lead researcher of this study; he says that women are less affected by heart disease because they shovel comparatively less to men during the major snowfalls. Another possibility is infusing heavy strength only into shoveling, which shows serious effects on people with heart diseases.
The study says that people who are associated with CAD (coronary artery diseases) only during cold temperatures have more triggering points for heart attacks and other effects on the heart. To have a healthy immune system during the cold season is a very special challenge where we have to keep our oxygen starvation linked with heart muscles.
According to a recent survey, people associated with heart failure symptoms will have less immune power to the environmental temperature, which will lead to heavy heart diseases and, in some cases, lead to death.
The study suggests that people in cold temperatures will have a heavy heart rate, heavy blood pressure, increase of blood clotting, and the heart will work harder.
The American Heart Association warns about this study that “people who regularly shovel snow will have higher chances of heart attacks and heart diseases which will cause death sometimes” and says that doesn’t convert the snowfall into a deadly environment.
