COVID-19 Effect On The Length Of Menstrual Cycle

In a recent study done by the National Institute of Health, it was found that women who are vaccinated had got an increase in the length of their menstrual cycle. The study was done with the help of a fertility tracker app named Natural Cycles.

COVID-19 Effect On The Length Of Menstrual Cycle

There were almost 3900 plus women’s part of it among which majority of them were vaccinated whereas there were 1400 plus women’s who were non-vaccinated. Then the menstrual cycle was observed for such women to know if there is any effect of Vaccination on the length of the menstrual cycle.

COVID-19 Effect On The Length Of Menstrual Cycle

Women entered the start and end days of menstruation in the apps. The analysis was made for the vaccinated women and the effect of COVID-19 Vaccination on the menstrual cycle.

On observation, it was found that there was almost 91 days increase for the women who got the second dose of Vaccination and 71 days increase in case of the first dose of Vaccination which concluded that there is the effect of the Vaccination on the menstrual cycle of the women.

It was observed by Alison Edelman, M.D., M.P.H., of Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, that there are variations in the menstrual cycle which are quite small on a monthly basis. This brings us to the need for more researches to find out the actual effects and also understand if the Vaccination has also affected the characteristics of the mensuration process, which includes pain and mood swings.

There is a need for research to conclude things, but this study indicates that there are small variations in days of the menstrual cycle after Vaccination in women.

The women’s health is largely dependent on whether they have a regular menstrual cycle and flow of blood is usual and the days in which menstruation should be commenced is proper, and there is no increase or decrease in the number of days. Whereas there are a lot more rumors about the effect of the COVID-19 Vaccination on people’s health and which are making people not get vaccinated, not realizing they are risking their lives in such cases.

Diana W. Bianchi, M.D., director of N.I.H.’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) “It is reassuring that the study found only a small, temporary menstrual change in women.” Then she further added, “These results provide, for the first time, an opportunity to counsel women about what to expect from COVID-19 vaccination so they can plan accordingly.”

These studies can be used to educate women about their menstrual health and their relationship with the COVID-19 Vaccination and remove all their concerns regarding getting vaccinated.

Though the length of the menstrual cycle has increased for a day in the case of the who got vaccinated and it is also observed that the women with double Vaccination had a two-day increase in the menstrual cycle.

One or two days increase or decrease in the menstrual cycle is normal only when the eight days, which is a maximum limit of days in the menstrual cycle, is crossed, then it is a matter of concern. Everything gets normal after a period of certain menstrual cycles, even in the vaccinated women, and they have the usual day’s count in the menstrual cycle. This means though there is an effect on the menstrual cycle, it is temporary and not permanent, and one shouldn’t worry about it and should get vaccinated soon to prevent themselves from the virus.

The International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics has stayed in this variation in the menstrual cycle is normal, and one should bother themselves with it even if the reason behind it is COVID-19 Vaccination also.
