Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Chief Medical Adviser to the White House administration has been keeping an eye on the omicron variant since its outbreak in South Africa. After detecting the initial case of the omicron strain in California he stated that he won’t be surprised if the cases will increase further as the studies showed the variant is highly contagious and it was clearly visible in the African countries where the cases were doubling every day.
Dr.Fauci Warns The Country On Widespread Omicron Infection!
The spread of omicron in the United States is at a much faster pace than expected by medical experts. At such a fast pace and access, it may soon catch hold of nearly everybody in the country. The threat to unvaccinated people is more as they don’t even have the primary shield of protection with them and this new strain has the capacity to attack the non-vaccinated in the first place.
Vaccinated people will be at low risk of getting infected and there will be fewer chances of hospitalization and death even if an individual gets infected with the new version. Omicron holds a greater level of transmissibility as compared to the Delta variant but according to the studies it is less severe and carries milder symptoms.
Those who have completed their primary doses of vaccine are likely to face the infection better. Also, booster shots will help in reducing the rates of hospitalizations and deaths rates by 90 percent according to the researchers. Also, witnessing the current scenario the US CDC has reduced the booster dose time limit to 5 months from 6 months of the completion of the two doses of Pfizer or BioNTech. If you haven’t received a single dose of the vaccine, you are more likely to get hit with the severity of the disease and might add up in the mortality rate.
The percentage of people who are fully vaccinated and have received booster doses is still much less when analyzing the speed at which the virus is spreading. However, Dr. Fauci has warned that there will be a further rise in the cases of omicron in the country, and the advanced phase of a pandemic may hit the country. He also announced that the hospital administration needs to be fully equipped with the required resources.
Although The White House Administration is trying to make sure that people don’t suffer vaccine shortage and testing facilities. In some parts of the country, there is an acute shortage of medical supplies, testing kits, and healthcare staff.
According to the latest findings it has been found that the omicron holds the ability to be more contagious and will gradually affect everybody.
Some officials are also arguing that rather than focussing on eliminating the covid 19 virus we shall focus on prevention first because eliminating COVID-19 is something that is not feasible and practically possible at this time.
